Active Tundish Slag

Steel Research International, 2013
AbstractThe concept of “active tundish slag” aims definitely at improving of steel cleanliness by tailoring a proper tundish slag. In this project, active tundish metallurgy was investigated and assessed. Computation of phase diagrams was used as an approach to understand properties and behavior of tundish slags in casting conditions.

Investigation on the Effects of Ladle Change Operation and Tundish Cover Powder on Steel Cleanliness in a Continuous Casting Tundish

Steel Research International, 2021
The multiphase flows involving steel—slag—air phases in a two‐strand tundish during ladle change are investigated using mathematical modeling. Experimental results from water modeling are used to validate the simulated results. Tundish cover powder (TCP) and steel samples are taken from eight heats in one sequence to evaluate the effect of the ...

A plasma tundish heater

Steel Research, 2001
The world's first industrially employed plasma system with graphite electrodes for the continuous heating of a tundish was commissioned at the end of March 2001. The system is equipped with 2 graphite electrodes so that a floor electrode is no longer needed.

Discharging properties of tundish slag for an improved hot-tundish recycling process

Steel Research, 2002
The discharging properties of tundish slag for an improved hot-tundish recycling process were investigated using a lab-scale discharging experiment at 1773 K. The sticking ratio of the slag (defined as the weight ratio of the sticking slag on a Al 2 O 3 crucible after discharging to the total slag at the moment of discharging) was found to decrease ...

Refining Steel in the Tundish

Metallurgist, 2005
Making the steel of continuous-cast ingots cleaner with respect to nonmetallic inclusions is one of the most important problems in ferrous metallurgy and is difficult to solve simply by means of a single out-of-furnace treatment. This article discusses steps being taken by the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine to improve the refining of nonmetallic ...

Goo An’ Fetch the Tundish

2021
In this autobiographical poem, steeped in the dialect of Tipton, Hawthorne delves into the place-specific smells of working-class life, drawing out ideas about generational differences and of the multifaceted face of masculinity and Grandfather and Grandson relationships.

Bubbling in a tundish

1997
It has been proposed that bubbling in a tundish could remove small inclusions. A cold modelling study of inclusion removal has demonstrated that fine particles can be readily removed from a tundish fluid and that this removal is sensitive to fluid depth, casting rate, gas flowrate and bubbler position. A mathematical model has been developed to predict
