TRACK DECAY RATE (TDR) MEASUREMENT METHOD FOR REACTIVE DAMPING BY TUNED MASS DAMPER (TMD)
Inter-Noise 2022, 2023TDR measures the rate of vibration decay along rail in dB/m. Higher TDR leads to lower noise radiation. However, new railways are often having low TDR due to the use of resilient fasteners (to provide vibration isolation between rail and supporting structure for ground borne noise concerns), which leads to high noise radiation.

Self-tuning tuned mass damper (TMD)
SPIE Proceedings, 2017Tuned mass dampers (TMD) are heavily damped resonant devices which add damping to lightly damped, vibrational modes of a structure by dynamically coupling into the lightly damped modes. In practice, a TMD is a damped spring/mass resonator that is tuned so that its frequency is close to a lightly damped mode on the host structure. The TMD is attached to

This paper develops an approach for the use of the hysteretic damped tuned mass damper (HD-TMD) to achieve an optimal design in the seismic environment for acceleration response control. The authors note that previous work has concentrated on vibration mitigation in HD-TMD systems without explicit consideration of structural acceleration flow, an area ...

Wind-Induced Vibration Control Using Tuned Mass Damper (TMD)
Journal of Engineering Research and ApplicationThis study aims to examine the efficacy of a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) in reducing the vibrations, encompassing both frequency and amplitude, of a high-rise structure. The procedure was executed utilizing Ansys Workbench (Design Modeler, Mechanical). The evaluations conducted included Modal Analysis and Harmonic Response assessments for both the building

An improved tuned mass damper (SMA-TMD) assisted by a shape memory alloy spring
Smart Materials and Structures, 2013The tuned mass damper (TMD) is a well acclaimed passive control device for vibration control of structures. However, the requirement of a higher mass ratio restricts its applicability for seismic vibration control of civil engineering structures. Improving the performance of TMDs has been attempted by supplementing them with nonlinear restoring devices.

Shape Memory Alloy-Tuned Mass Damper (SMA-TMD) for Seismic Vibration Control
2014Tuned-Mass-Damper (TMD) is a passive control device for vibration control of structures. However, the requirement of higher mass ratio restricts its applicability for seismic excitations. The improved performance of TMD is attempted herein by supplementing it with nonlinear restoring devices made of Shape-Memory-Alloy (SMA) (hence referred as SMA-TMD),

Seismic Response Control of Buildings by Perimeter Walls Functioning as Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs)
2015Abstract. In this study, a new and innovative system of perimeter walls is presented in which perimeter walls of buildings, in addition to separating inner and outer space, function as Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs), and considerably reduce the structural responses to seismic excitations. Furthermore, compared to conventional TMDs, this system occupies much
