Characterization of Rice Tungro Bacilliform and Rice Tungro Spherical Viruses

Phytopathology, 1991
Nucleic acids and proteins of rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) and rice tungro spherical virus (RTSV) were analyzed by gel electrophoresis. RTSV contains single-stranded RNA of 3.7×10 6 Da and two major proteins of 24 and 23 kDa. RTBV contains circular double-stranded DNA of 8.3 kbp and a single major protein of 32 kDa.

Variation of Rice Tungro Viruses: Further Evidence of Two Rice Tungro Bacilliform Virus Strains and Possibly Several Rice Tungro Spherical Virus Variants

Journal of Phytopathology, 1998
AbstractRice tungro disease is caused by two viruses: rice tungro spherical virus (RTSV) and rice tungro bacilhform virus (RTBV). Our results obtained using polymerase chain reaction (for RTBV) and western blot analysis (for RTSV) to study the epidemiology of tungro supported earlier studies that two RTBV strains.

Physiology of Rice Tungro Virus Disease: Increased Cytokinin Activity in Tungro‐Infected Rice Cultivars

Physiologia Plantarum, 1978
AbstractTungro virus infection decreased the chlorophyll content in the susceptible rice (Oryza sativa) cultivar ‘Taichung Native 1’, while it increased the pigment in the less‐susceptible cultivar ‘IR 20’ during the later stages of infection. The virus was recovered from the infected susceptibile cultivar as early as 3 days after inoculation ...

Resistances in Rice to Tungro-Associated Viruses

Plant Disease, 1990
Tungro is a composite disease associated with rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) and rice tungro spherical virus (RTSV). Over a period of 23 yr, 40,000 rice germ plasm accessions were evaluated for resistance to tungro by greenhouse mass inoculation using the vector green leafhopper (GLH), Nephotettix virescens.
