Characterization of the genome of rice tungro bacilliform virus: Comparison with Commelina yellow mottle virus and caulimoviruses

open access: yesVirology, 1991
Rice tungro disease is caused by an infection of two different viruses, rice tungro spherical virus (a (+) sense RNA virus) and rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) with a genome of circular double-stranded DNA. The genome of an RTBV isolate from the Philippines was cloned, sequenced, and found to be 8000 bp in length.

Differentiation of rice tungro bacilliform virus strains by restriction analysis and DNA hybridization

open access: yesJournal of Virological Methods, 1998
Rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) is one of the two viruses that cause tungro disease. Four RTBV strains maintained in the greenhouse for 4 years, G1, G2, Ic, and L, were differentiated by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of the native viral DNA.

Rice Tungro Bacilliform Virus: Transcription and Translation in Protoplasts

Virology, 1994
Protoplasts from cell suspension cultures of Oryza sativa (monocot) and Orychophragmus violaceus (dicot) support transcription from the rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) promoter and translation of the resulting mRNA despite the presence of a long leader sequence with strong secondary structure and 12 short open reading frames.

Genetic Variation of Rice Tungro Bacilliform Virus in the Philippines

Virus Genes, 1997
Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLPs) were found in 27 full genome length clones from a glasshouse isolate of rice tungro bacilliform pararetrovirus (RTBV) from the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the Philippines and from clones from 5 field isolates from different parts of the Philippines.

P4 protein of an Indian isolate of rice tungro bacilliform virus modulates gene silencing

Virus Genes, 2023
Plant hosts and their viral pathogens are engaged in a constant cycle of defense and counter-defense as part of a molecular arms race, principal among them being the plant RNAi defense and the viral RNAi suppressor counter-defense. Rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV), member of the family Caulimoviridae, genus Tungrovirus, species Tungrovirus oryzae ...

Rice tungro bacilliform virus DNA independently infects rice after Agrobacterium-mediated transfer

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1991
In nature, rice tungro disease is caused by an RNA and a DNA virus complex, but we have obtained an independently infectious clone of rice tungro bacilliform virus (RTBV) DNA. Infectivity could be demonstrated only when a more than unit-length copy was cloned in the Agrobacterium binary vector Bin 19 and agroinoculated into rice plants.
