Tectonic Evolution of the Proto‒Tethys in the Early Devonian: Insights From the Turbidite in the North Qilian Belt, NW China

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
The Devonian tectonic setting is still controversial in the Proto‒Tethyan North Qilian belt. The Hexi Corridor of the North Qilian belt occupies a key position in constraining the tectonic evolution of the Proto‒Tethyan Ocean and the growth of the Asian ...

Discovery of Deep-Water Turbidites in the Nanhua System Gucheng Formation in the Outcrop Area of Northeastern Sichuan and Its Enlightenment for Ultra-Deep Exploration

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The Sichuan Basin serves as a key arena for ultra-deep natural gas exploration. The Nanhuan System Gucheng Formation, characterized by its ancient geological age and great burial depth, lacks almost any drilling data within the basin interior, and its ...

Northeastern Greenland Paleomagnetic Records Indicate the Influence of Geomagnetic Flux Lobe Intensity on Virtual Geomagnetic Pole Migration During the Holocene

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Paleomagnetic and rock magnetic analyses were conducted on sediment cores from the northeastern Greenland Shelf and Young Sound along the western edge of Fram Strait. The paleomagnetic signal in all three sediment cores is characterized by a strong and stable single component magnetization carried by low coercivity ferrimagnetic single domain ...

Deep Sea Sediment Gravity Flow Deposits in Gulf of Tomini, Sulawesi

open access: yesIndonesian Journal on Geoscience, 2014
http://dx.doi.org/10.17014/ijog.vol3no4.20084Micro plate collision against the Eastern Arm of Sulawesi since Pliocene has resulted in a major supply of terigenous sediments into Late Miocene rift-basins in Gulf of Tomini.

Building an 18 000-year-long paleo-earthquake record from detailed deep-sea turbidite characterisation in Poverty Bay, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2012
Two ~20 m-long sedimentary cores collected in two neighbouring mid-slope basins of the Paritu Turbidite System in Poverty Bay, east of New Zealand, show a high concentration of turbidites (5 to 6 turbidites per meter), interlaid with hemipelagites ...

Detrital-zircon geochronology and provenance of the Ocloyic synorogenic clastic wedge, and Ordovician accretion of the Argentine Precordillera terrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The Precordillera terrane in northwestern Argentina is interpreted to be anexotic (Laurentian) continental fragment that was accreted to western Gondwanaduring the Ordovician. One prominent manifestation of the subductionand collision process is a Middle?

Geochemical and Seismic Constraints on the Role of Mud Diapirs in Petroleum Migration and Accumulation in the Recôncavo Basin, NE Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, Volume 49, Issue 2, Page 433-447, April 2026.
ABSTRACT In the Recôncavo Basin, Northeast of Brazil, mud diapirs have been reported for decades, but their role within the basin's petroleum system remains poorly constrained. Here, we combine 2D seismic interpretation, field observations, and organic geochemical analyses of rocks and oil seeps to investigate the relationship between diapirism and ...

Variations in downslope activity and bottom current dynamics in a land‐detached submarine channel system since the Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 3, Page 620-644, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The Gollum Channel System is a land‐detached large‐scale canyon‐channel system situated offshore southwest Ireland on the Northeast Atlantic margin. The system has been considered inactive with downslope gravity flows since the last glacial period, but geophysical data in some of its branches do suggest Holocene activity.
