Tectonic Evolution of the Proto‒Tethys in the Early Devonian: Insights From the Turbidite in the North Qilian Belt, NW China

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
The Devonian tectonic setting is still controversial in the Proto‒Tethyan North Qilian belt. The Hexi Corridor of the North Qilian belt occupies a key position in constraining the tectonic evolution of the Proto‒Tethyan Ocean and the growth of the Asian ...

Late Cretaceous Sub-Marine Fan System in Batain Mélange Zone, the Fayah Formation in Northeastern Oman

open access: yesSultan Qaboos University Journal for Science, 2014
The Batain coast along the northeastern margin of Oman between Ra’s Al-Hadd and Ra’s Jibsch, is comprised of Permian to Late Cretaceous complex stratigraphy in a tectonically deformed area recording Permian rifting to late Cretaceous Tethys closure ...

Comment on Reply to Comment of Finger et al. (2013) on: 'Evidence for an Early-Middle Miocene age of the Navidad Formation (central Chile): Paleontological, paleoclimatic and tectonic implications' of Gutiérrez et al. (2013, Andean Geology 40 (1): 66-78) [PDF]

Indexación: Web of Science; ScieloIn their answer to our Comment (Finger et al., 2013), Le Roux et al. (2013) misunderstand several of our remarks and present what we view as f lawed arguments, principally their case for a shallow-marine environment for ...

Differentiating hyperpycnal, hypopycnal and turbidity current deposits in late Quaternary glaciogenic mud

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
X‐ray CT and microscopic analysis of glaciogenic mud provide insight into the deposits of sediment‐laden density flows and reveal that strata comprise two microtextural motifs. The deposits of bottom‐hugging hyperpycnal flows and slope‐failure‐related turbidity currents are characterised by laterally continuous, sharply bounded silt‐rich and clay‐rich ...

Investigations on the Peach 4 Debrite, a Late Pleistocene Mass Movement on the Northwest British Continental Margin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Peach 4 debrite is the most recent in a series of large scale Pleistocene MTDs within the Barra fan on the northwest British continental margin. Geophysical data indicate that Peach 4 was formed through a combination of blocky and muddy debris flows

Hydrothermal dolomitisation of a deep‐water bioherm isolated in a non‐dolomitised intraplatform basin within the Norian Dolomia Principale (Southern Alps, northern Italy)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
We propose that one of the largest known bioconstructions (the Monte Zenone bioherm) in the Southern Alps, northern Italy, and its growth on a tilted and drowned platform block of the Norian Dolomia Principale was controlled by hydrothermal dolomitisation from fault‐controlled fluids during the Late Triassic–Early Jurassic rifting phase. Dolomitisation

Crustal Structure of Laurentia and Peri‐Gondwanan Terranes Beneath Ireland and Britain and Comparison With Eastern North America

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The Appalachian‐Caledonian orogen was built during the Paleozoic by accretion of peri‐Gondwanan terranes onto Laurentia, culminating in the formation of Pangea. During the Mesozoic, Pangea broke apart, displacing one section of the belt to eastern North America and another to northwestern Europe.

Exceptional preservation of three-dimensional dunes on an ancient deep-marine seafloor: implications for sedimentary processes and depositional environments

open access: yesSedimentologika
Depositional and erosional bedforms can be used to reconstruct sedimentary processes and aid palaeoenvironmental interpretations. Using exhumed deep-marine strata in the Eocene Aínsa Basin, Spain, we document a 3-dimensional package of dunes, a rarely ...
