Seismic Stratigraphy and Tectonic Evolution of the Forearc Georgia Basin (Upper Cretaceous–Miocene), Canada and USA, With Implications for CO2 Sequestration

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
2D seismic and well data reveal multi‐phase basin filling in the Whatcom Sub‐Basin shaped by syn‐depositional tectonism. An Eocene transition from forearc basin to forearc depression corresponds to decreasing normal‐fault density and throw, both upsection and eastward. Paleogene–Neogene strata are the best CO2 storage targets.

Field trip guide to the Onland Oligocene-Miocene Sedimentary Record, Eastern Taranaki Basin Margin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This field guide affords a north to south transect through examples of the Mesozoic to Quaternary sedimentary succession exposed in the Waikato, King Country and coastal strip of the eastern Taranaki basins, with particular focus on the Oligocene and ...

Palaeolimnology of Lake Sapanca and identification of historic earthquake signals, Northern Anatolian Fault Zone (Turkey) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Lake Sapanca is located on a strand of the Northern Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ, Turkey), where a series of strong earthquakes (Ms >6.0) have occurred over the past hundred years. Identifying prehistoric earthquakes in and around Lake Sapanca is key to a

Paleoenvironmental Stasis for the Bioturbating Community During the Paleocene‐Eocene Thermal Maximum at the Southern Iberian Margin

open access: yesGeobiology, Volume 24, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT During the Paleocene‐Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), there was an increase in global temperatures and emissions of isotopically depleted carbon, resulting in a negative carbon isotope excursion (CIE). This climatic event caused a widespread ocean deoxygenation, leading to substantial biotic turnover.

Timing of Metamorphism and Deformation in the Neoarchean Quetico Metasedimentary Belt, Superior Craton, Constrained by Garnet Trace‐Element Mapping and Lu–Hf Geochronology

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 44, Issue 4, Page 265-286, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The Quetico subprovince of the Superior Province is among the largest metasedimentary belts globally and provides evidence of tectonic processes at play during the final stages of Archean cratonization. Although previous studies have shown that deformation and metamorphism of the 2.7‐Ga turbiditic protolith resulted in regional subvertical ...

Reduced sediment accumulation rate enhances early marine diagenesis of periplatform sediments

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 2, April 2026.
The influence of reduced sediment accumulation rate on early marine burial diagenesis was investigated in sediments collected by ODP Leg 133. Results show that low sediment accumulation rates can produce substantial and asynchronous shifts in stable carbon isotope ratios across a slope transect without the development of sedimentological indicators of ...

Mass wasting at the base of the South central Chilean continental margin: the Reloca Slide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Offshore south central Chile (35° S–42° S), the morphology of the lowermost continental slope and trench floor witnesses a voluminous submarine mass-wasting event.

Development and Application of a Simplified Method for Preliminary Assessment of Enhanced Oil Recovery and CO2 Geological Storage in Petroleum Reservoirs

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 238-252, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Geologic carbon storage in depleted oil and gas reservoirs is a key CO2 mitigation strategy, utilizing existing infrastructure such as injection wells and pipelines, while capitalizing on well‐characterized subsurface properties. This article introduces a versatile methodology designed to estimate critical parameters, including the number of ...
