Hydro‐Sedimentary Processes of a Plunging Hyperpycnal River Plume Revealed by Synchronized Remote Imagery and Gridded Current Measurements

open access: yesWater Resources Research
The present knowledge of plunging hyperpycnal river plumes is mainly based on two‐dimensional (confined) laboratory experiments. Several hypotheses on three‐dimensional (unconfined) flow processes have been made, but not tested in situ.

Environmental and local habitat variables as predictors of trophic interactions in subtidal rocky reefs along the SE Pacific coast

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Temperature generally drives latitudinal patterns in the strength of trophic interactions, including consumption rates. However, local community and other environmental conditions might also affect consumption, disrupting latitudinal gradients, which results in complex large‐scale patterns.

Illinois River Volunteer Monitoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Understanding how water quality conditions change along a land use gradient and over time is important for sustainable watershed management. Therefore, a volunteer monitoring program was created to measure water chemistry at 37 established sites within ...

Nanofiber PVA‐Based Membranes Incorporating Functionalized Spanish Broom Derivatives for Sustainable Water Purification

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study investigates Spanish broom (Spartium junceum) as a renewable source for electrospun composite membranes in sustainable water purification. MCC and biochar were functionalized with eco‐friendly precursors and nanomaterials (i.e., HNT, β‐CDs) to develop hybrid PVA nanofiber composites.

Swept away by a turbidity current in Mendocino submarine canyon, California

open access: yes, 2014
We present unique observations and measurements of a dilute turbidity current made with a remotely operated vehicle in 400?m water depth near the head of Mendocino Canyon, California.

Antibacterial Activity of Heteropolytungstates Against Proteus mirabilis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
We investigated the in vitro antibacterial activity of several heteropolytungstates against P. mirabilis, a drug‐resistant pathogen. All tested polyanions inhibited bacterial growth, with the Preyssler–Pope–Jeannin polyanion P5W30 exhibiting the highest activity (MIC = 0.78 mg/mL).

Stability Evaluation and Parametric Optimization of Coal‐Concrete Composite Bearing Systems Under Mine‐Water‐Induced Deterioration: Experiments and FEINN Analysis

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Mine‐water immersion tests reveal pronounced coal weakening (vs. minor concrete degradation), identifying coal pillars as the stability‐limiting component in composite dams. A coupled FEINN framework quantifies extreme‐pressure stability and ranks multi‐parameter designs via a normalized multi‐indicator scheme, enabling optimized dam configuration for ...

Age, embryo donor status, and insemination with chilled semen all predispose to persistent breeding‐induced endometritis in warmblood mares

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Persistent breeding‐induced endometritis (PBIE) is a common reason for mares failing to establish pregnancy. Objective To examine the hypothesis that advancing mare age and embryo donor status predispose to PBIE and compromise fertility.
