Human Leukocyte Elastase Triggered Nanoparticles for Targeted Antimicrobial Delivery and Oral Microbial Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This study explores enzyme‐responsive nanoparticles for targeted antimicrobial release in inflamed oral environments. Nanoparticles formed by complexing peptides and chlorhexidine respond to human leukocyte elastase and release chlorhexidine selectively. P7 (ECAAPVCE)‐based formulations show optimal properties and stability, with antimicrobial activity

Is it appropriate to model turbidity currents with the three-equation model?

open access: yes, 2015
The three-equation model (TEM) was developed in the 1980s to model turbidity currents (TCs) and has been widely used ever since. However, its physical justification was questioned because self-accelerating TCs simulated with the steady TEM seemed to ...

Management of estuarine beaches on the Amazon coast though the application of recreational carrying capacity indices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The purpose of this paper is to determine the Recreational Carrying Capacity of three estuarine beaches (Colares, Marudá and Murubira) on the Amazon coast of Brazil, based on the combined assessment of natural conditions and visitor facilities.

Green Fuel Combustion Synthesis of CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 Nanoparticles for Photocatalytic and Antibacterial Applications

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Silver‐doped cerium oxide nanoparticles (Ag/CeO2 NPs) were synthesized using Ricinus communis seed extract as a bio‐derived fuel in a solution combustion method. The combustion reaction, carried out at 450°C with AgNO3 and (NH4)2[Ce (NO3)6] as metal precursors, produced CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 NPs.

Complex and Cascading Triggering of Submarine Landslides and Turbidity Currents at Volcanic Islands Revealed From Integration of High-Resolution Onshore and Offshore Surveys

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2018
Submerged flanks of volcanic islands are prone to hazards including submarine landslides that may trigger damaging tsunamis and sediment-laden seafloor flows (called “turbidity currents”). These hazards can break seafloor infrastructure which is critical

Typhoon-induced megarips as triggers of turbidity currents offshore tropical river deltas

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment, 2020
Intense rip currents caused by tropical cyclones can drive sediment-laden turbidity flows down submarine canyons, according to numerical simulations. Shoreline shape, bathymetry and incoming wave direction are key factors controlling this phenomenon.

Reassessment of mid-Carboniferous glacial extent in southwestern Gondwana (Rio Blanco Basin, Argentina) inferred from paleo-mass transport of diamictites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Late Paleozoic glacial diamictites occur in many localities in western Argentina, indicating that the region was strongly affected by glaciation during the mid-Carboniferous (late Serpukhovian–early Bashkirian).

Evaluation of a Product Intended for Microbiological Control in Animal Production, and Its Combination With Halquinol

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Activo Liquid and Halquinol inhibit Salmonella and Escherichia coli in culture media. Activo Liquid exhibits bactericidal action, whereas HA is bacteriostatic, and their combination results in positive or indifferent interactions. This combination effectively inhibits E. coli throughout digestion simulation, thus reducing the required concentrations of

Circulation of hydraulically ponded turbidity currents and the filling of continental slope minibasins

open access: yesNature Communications
Natural depressions on continental margins termed minibasins trap turbidity currents, a class of sediment-laden seafloor density driven flow. These currents are the primary downslope vectors for clastic sediment, particulate organic carbon, and ...

Preliminary Report on the Fishes of the Upper Saline River, Polk and Howard Counties, Arkansas, and Observations on Their Relationships with Land Use and Physiochemical Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The Saline River of southwest Arkansas was impounded by Dierks Lake in 1975. Intensive collecting efforts were made in the river system above Dierks Lake during March, April, and May 1980.
