Modeling and Power Regulation Strategy of Variable‐Speed Pumped Storage Unit With Full‐Size Converter in Pump Mode

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A numerical model of variable‐speed pumped storage unit (VSPSU) with full‐size converter (FSC) under fast speed control strategy is established. Additionally, the correctness of the model was validated by comparing with SIMSEN simulation results and text prototype data from NARI.

Topping turbine (103-JAT) rotor instability in 1150-STPD Kellogg ammonia plants [PDF]

open access: yes
In two of Agrico's three plants, instabilities in the rotor/bearing system have been an ongoing problem. On occasion plant rates, i.e., machine speed, have been restricted in order to limit the exhaust and shaft relative vibration on the 103-JAT to a ...

Blade Count and Rotational Speed Sensitivity of Vertical‐Axis Turbines Under Guided Vehicle‐Generated Transient Wakes

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Passing vehicles generate short‐duration wakes that can be redirected toward a vertical‐axis turbine. The interaction between wake structure, blade count, and rotational speed governs transient torque production. Low‐solidity configurations combined with tuned rotational speed enhance energy extraction under vehicle‐induced gusts.
