A Supersensitive Governor for Hydraulic Turbines

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1940
Abstract A supersensitive governor is defined in this paper as one that will move the gates of a hydraulic turbine in the corrective direction by reason of a change of speed of 0.02 per cent and will then move the gates back by reason of a change of the speed back to the former speed.

PLC-Based Turbine Governor System

Conference Record of 2006 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference, 2006
The governor system used by many pulp and paper facilities with steam power generation creates many challenges. Challenges such as inadequate response times; poor speed regulation; analog control drifting; high maintenance and support costs; expensive or unavailable parts; and extended lead times. Machine availability is affected and extended generator

Solving turbine governor instability at low-load conditions

2015 IEEE Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee Conference (PCIC), 2015
During routine commissioning of a steam turbine load-sharing system, serious low-load frequency instabilities were discovered. These instabilities were causing undamped oscillations in power and frequency to escalate until protective relays tripped a generator offline.

Computer-Aided Design of Adaptive Hydraulic Turbine Governors

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1979
Abstract The design of the speed control system for a hydroelectric power unit, connected to a local grid is investigated. Manual design methods are limited to very simple process models. If more adequate models are to be need routinely, an interactive computer-aided control system design procedure is necessary.

Turbine governor system frequency measurement based on DSP

2011 2nd International Conference on Control, Instrumentation and Automation (ICCIA), 2011
Hydro turbine governor play an important role in maintain the frequency stability of power system and operation control. It also affects security and efficiency of the hydropower plants. So performance of the governor is important to the hydropower plants. Frequency measurement is the key problem in the hydro-turbine governing system.

Nonlinear Adaptive Robust Governor Control for Turbine generator

IEEE ICCA 2010, 2010
This paper presents a design approach to nonlinear adaptive control of turbine speed governor systems with parametric uncertainties and exogenous disturbances. It is shown that the stabilizing control law with desired L 2 gain from the disturbance to regulated output can be designed by the dynamic surface control method in a recursive way without ...

Field Adjustment of Hydraulic-Turbine Governors

Journal of Engineering for Power, 1961
This paper discusses certain aspects of the adjustment of hydraulic-turbine governors for stable operation on a-c networks and describes a series of field tests performed to determine satisfactory adjustment of units operating on a network of limited capacity.

Integrated maintenance features of hydro turbine governors

Proceedings. International Conference on Power System Technology, 2003
Governor is one of the most maintenance intensive equipment in hydro power plants. The maintenance computerization of the governor is studied. A knowledge bank, which summarizes both the expert knowledge and the analytical knowledge on the failure modes and their manifestations as well as their effects, is established.

On-site investigation of electrohydraulic governors for water turbines

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1977
Hydroelectric generating sets controlled by conventional, mechanical, temporary-droop governors respond rather slowly to changes in system frequency and do not, therefore, realise their full potential as spinning reserves. Because of this, the electrohydraulic governor system described in this paper was developed for on-site evaluation of control ...

Robust control of hydro turbine speed governor

Proceedings of the 10th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation, 2012
This paper presents the design of the μ robust performance of a hydro Turbine speed governor. It can be used to solve the μ robustness problems, which can't be done by the conventional H ∞ robust performance designs. High frequency oscillation and large amplitude of output and control variable of the control system are exhibited by a conventional H ∞
