Eu3+ as a structural probe in yttrium silicates through photoluminescence emission spectra

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract This work presents the first steps in using Eu3+ as a structural probe using photoluminescence (PL) emission spectra. The sol–gel synthesis of four Eu3+‐doped powders encompassing seven phases of the yttrium silicate phase system is detailed.

Joint Actuator and Sensor Fault Diagnosis in Wind Turbine Systems

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a fault diagnosis method for wind turbine systems that can simultaneously detect and estimate both actuator and sensor faults. Unlike previous studies that treat these faults separatelyand focus mainly on pitch angle‐related variables, our study recognizes the interdependence between actuator and sensor faults and expands ...

Aerodynamic enhancement of wind turbine blades through Peregrine falcon‐inspired surface designs

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, Volume 44, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract As global energy demands increase, enhancing renewable energy technologies, particularly wind turbines, is essential to meet sustainability goals. However, achieving higher efficiency remains challenging due to limitations in traditional blade designs. This study explores an innovative solution by applying biomimetic principles inspired by the

Numerical Calculation of the Transient Process of a Self‐Priming Pump During Closed‐Valve Starting and Valve Opening

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 13, Issue 10, Page 5008-5029, October 2025.
ABSTRACT To investigate the characteristics of a particular self‐priming pump during its typical starting operation, this paper constructs a circulating pipeline system that includes the self‐priming pump, tank, and other components. Initially, air is set up in the upper part of the tank and the self‐priming pump, while the rest of the system is filled

Dry Fractionation of Canadian Faba Bean Genotypes Differing in Seed Size and Levels of Vicine, Convicine and Seed Coat Tannins

open access: yesSustainable Food Proteins, Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2025.
Extrapolation of dry fractionation yield values and protein and starch levels of fine and coarse fraction of faba bean genotypes Fabelle, Malik, and Snowbird grown in three locations (Kamsack, Outlook and Saskatoon) and 2 years (2018 and 2019) shows that the low‐vicine and convicine genotype Fabelle can give comparatively higher protein levels with ...

Closed‐Loop Model‐Predictive Wind Farm Flow Control Under Time‐Varying Inflow Using FLORIDyn

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Wind farm flow control has been a key research focus in recent years, driven by the idea that a collectively operating wind farm can outperform individually controlled turbines. Control strategies are predominantly applied in an open‐loop manner, where the current flow conditions are used to look up precomputed steady‐state set points.

Numerical Calculation of the Influence of Working Conditions and Rotational Speed on Pressure Pulsation of a Self‐Priming Pump

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 13, Issue 8, Page 3954-3978, August 2025.
To accurately determine the pressure fluctuation characteristics of a specific self‐priming pump, a full three‐dimensional computational model was established, including the S‐tube, impeller domain, volute domain, gas‐liquid separation chamber, front and rear cavities, wear ring clearance, and reflux hole.

Solid–Liquid Flow Analysis of Francis‐99 Turbine Runner: Effects of Sediment Concentration

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 13, Issue 8, Page 4131-4142, August 2025.
ABSTRACT This study examines the behavior of solid–liquid two‐phase flow within the runner of the Francis‐99 turbine. Numerical simulations were carried out by Ansys Fluent software using the Mixture multiphase flow model along with the Realizable k‐ε turbulence model to analyze the solid–liquid two‐phase flow in the turbine runner.

CFD investigation on wind power harvesting from small‐scale wind turbines for powering residential buildings in New Zealand

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Volume 55, Issue 4, Page 977-1004, August 2025.
ABSTRACT As an alternative solution, wind power could be harnessed by designing and implementing small‐scale wind turbines for distributed power generation. In this work, 3‐dimensional time‐domain numerical simulations, based on the Reynolds‐Average Navier‐Strokes (RANS) model, are conducted for two categories of small‐scale wind turbines, i.e.
