In this paper we introduce a new coding scheme - so-called laminated turbo codes. It is characterized by a block-convolutional structure that enables us to combine the advantages of a convolutional encoder memory and a block-oriented decoding method. We show that this block-convolutional structure is superior in terms of its error correction capability

Turbo Codes and Turbo Equalization
2000Turbo codes, introduced by Berrou, et al.[Berrou et al., 1993] in 1993, provide large coding gain for the memoryless additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel and bring the system performance to within 1 dB from the Shannon capacity limit [Shannon, 1948]. The superior performance soon caused turbo codes to receive intense study.

Turbo Multicode Detection for Turbo-Coded HSDPA Systems
2006 8th international Conference on Signal Processing, 2006In this letter, a TIR (turbo iterative receiver) structure is proposed for the 3G HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) systems. The TIR performs two successive soft-output decisions, achieved by a SISO (soft-input soft-output) multicode detector and a SISO turbo decoder, through an iterative process.

Combined turbo equalisation and block turbo coded modulation
IEE Proceedings - Communications, 2003The combination of equalisation and turbo decoded M-QAM is studied. In a system of block turbo coding based on iterative decoding of a product code, equalisation is incorporated in the decoding iteration loop. Most research in this area has considered the trellis equaliser. When using a high throughput modulation trellis equalisation is impossible. The

The improvement of turbo equalization through using turbo codes
Proceedings. 2005 International Conference on Communications, Circuits and Systems, 2005., 2005In this paper, we propose an equalization algorithm based on serial concatenation turbo-like method-turbo code and parallel concatenation turbo-like method-turbo equalization to improve the BER performance of the general turbo equalization. Utilizing turbo code, we can get a more exact probability of channel encoder input data bits, needed in a maximum

Integration of Turbo-Expander- and Turbo-Ramjet-Engines in Hypersonic Vehicles
Volume 2: Aircraft Engine; Marine; Microturbines and Small Turbomachinery, 1992Turbo-Expander-Ramjet and Turbo-Ramjet are two engine concepts considered for hypersonic aircraft designs with a flight regime between Mach 0 and 7. To establish any performance or integration aspects for these two combined-cycle engine types, an extended study of a variety of influence parameters is necessary, because the interaction between aircraft ...

Proceedings of the Second International ICST Conference on Simulation Tools and Techniques, 2009
This paper presents an extension of the IT++ library useful for the study of turbo receivers. Turbo receivers are implemented using basic Soft-Input Soft-Output (SISO) modules. From a programming point of view, SISO modules are represented by methods of one C++ class.

French Turbo–Propeller and Turbo–Reaction Engines
The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1949When, in the course of his visit to Paris in May 1948, Dr. Roxbee Cox invited me to lecture to the Royal Aeronautical Society on our work in the field of turbopropeller and turbo-reaction engines, I was torn between two sentiments; the great honour which was done to me, and the seeming temerity for a French engineer to discourse on aircraft turbines ...

Turbo and Turbo-Like Codes: Principles and Applications in Telecommunications
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2007For decades, the de facto standard for forward error correction was a convolutional code decoded with the Viterbi algorithm, often concatenated with another code (e.g., a Reed-Solomon code). But since the introduction of turbo codes in 1993, much more powerful codes referred to collectively as turbo and turbo-like codes have eclipsed classical methods.

Performance-complexity tradeoffs for turbo and turbo-like codes
Proceedings. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37252), 2002We take a first empirical step toward understanding the performance-complexity tradeoffs that have newly arisen since the advent of turbo codes. For a set of turbo and turbo-like codes, we study this tradeoff, measuring the degree to which the coder/decoder fails to attain the sphere packing bound.
