SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Copper‐Based Crystalline‐Metallic Glass Composite Thin Films: A Novel Material with Enhanced Strength and Thermally Stable Nanotwins

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Cu‐based crystal‐glass composite with high‐density twins is identified by a fast screening technique using combinatorial sputtering together with XRD and nanoindentation mapping. This bamboo‐like structure demonstrates homogenous plastic flow and retains high strength during in situ high temperature tests, up to 1 GPa at 550°C, owing to those ...

Information-Coupled Turbo Codes for LTE Systems

open access: yes, 2017
We propose a new class of information-coupled (IC) Turbo codes to improve the transport block (TB) error rate performance for long-term evolution (LTE) systems, while keeping the hybrid automatic repeat request protocol and the Turbo decoder for each ...

On receiver design for low density signature OFDM (LDS-OFDM) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Low density signature orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (LDS-OFDM) is an uplink multi-carrier multiple access scheme that uses low density signatures (LDS) for spreading the symbols in the frequency domain.

A Modular Bioinstructive Platform Reveals Mechanistic Insights into Additive‐Free, Topography‐Driven Osteogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered microparticle topographies direct human mesenchymal stem cell osteogenesis without biochemical additives. This osteogenic commitment is driven by canonical Hedgehog signaling and followed by temporal IGF‐II engagement. Two‐photon polymerization demonstrates spatial control, enabling the engineering of topographical gradients that pattern ...

Overspeeding characteristics of turbomachinery for gas generator cycle air turbo ramjet engine

open access: yesPropulsion and Power Research, 2022
The main interest in the current study focuses on the possibility of overspeeding for the gas-generator cycle air turbo ramjet (GG-ATR) engine. The authors developed the air turbo ramjet engine and investigated its compressor performance.

Tuning Amorphous‐Crystalline Catalytic Interfaces by Mechanochemistry: Cu‐Based Metallic Glasses Coupled with Ceria for CO Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ball‐milling Cu‐based metallic glasses with ceria creates a unique nanostructure where metallic glass particles are wrapped by CeO2 nanoparticles. The intimate integration triggers copper state reorganization during reaction and aging, boosting CO oxidation and COPrOx activity.

The statistical mechanics of turbo codes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The "turbo codes", recently proposed by Berrou et. al. are written as a disordered spin Hamiltonian. It is shown that there is a threshold Theta such that for signal to noise ratios v^2 / w^2 > Theta, the error probability per bit vanishes in the ...

Cellular Snowballing: Cell Adhesion and Migration Drive the Self‐Assembly of Cell‐Microgel Biohybrid Spheroids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new class of biohybrid spheroids is engineered through the self‐assembly of adherent cells and extracellular matrix‐mimetic hydrogel microparticles (microgels). By mimicking a snowballing effect, this approach enables scalable formation of porous, millimeter‐scale spheroids with enhanced cell viability and molecular diffusion.
