Quantization issues in turbo decoding

Proceedings. 2005 International Conference on Communications, Circuits and Systems, 2005., 2005
It is necessary to quantize the variables in VLSI implementation of a turbo decoder. When the quantile interval of received symbol sequence (RSS) is fixed, the required precision of state metrics, log-likelihood ratio, etc are limited by the RSS quantizing error propagation.

Improved performance SOVA turbo decoder

IEE Proceedings - Communications, 2006
A novel approach for improving the performance of the soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) when applied to turbo decoding is proposed. Based upon a modified two-step scaling factor approach for the decoder's extrinsic information, it is shown that the proposed technique reduces significantly the error floor present in previous SOVA-based turbo decoding

Turbo Decoder with Parallel Processing

2013
The operating frequency \(\mathcal{F}\) is the decisive factor in throughput calculation of conventional turbo decoders. Although the modification to circuits can improve this factor, there is a limit to the critical path delay, and it is difficult to supply a stable clock signal with high frequency.
