Influence of Embankments with Parapets on the Cross-Wind Turbulence Intensity at the Contact Wire of Railway Overheads [PDF]

open access: green, 2010
Winds as an environmental factor can cause significant difficulties for the railway system operation. The railway overhead has been particularly vulnerable to cross-winds related problems, such as development of undamped oscillations due to galloping ...

Experiments on two-phase flow in hydraulic jump on pebbled rough bed: Part 1–Turbulence properties and particle chord time and length

open access: yesWater Science and Engineering, 2023
This study reported and discussed turbulence characteristics, such as turbulence intensity, correlation time scales, and advective length scales. The characteristic air–water time scale, including the particle chord time and length and their probability ...

Calculation of flow turbulence and analysis on screens setting-up in continuous and transonic wind tunnel

open access: yesXibei Gongye Daxue Xuebao, 2023
Turbulence intensity in test section is an important index to evaluate the flow-field performance of wind tunnel, and provide guarantee for model's dynamics and accurate test.

The First Observation of Turbulence in Northwestern China by a Near-Space High-Resolution Balloon Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Based on a new type of sensor mounted on a near-space balloon released in Hami, Xinjiang, the Thorpe method was used to analyze turbulence. The method was applied for the first time to northwest China (the mid-latitude region), and almost no radiosonde ...

Analysis of Turbulent Burning Velocity of Spherically Propagating Premixed Flame with Effective Turbulence Intensity

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2012
Burning velocity of spherically propagating turbulent flames kept increasing with flame propagation. On the other hand, turbulent burning velocity obtained from burner stabilized flame is constant for a given turbulence intensity.

Turbulent transport and dynamo in sheared MHD turbulence with a non-uniform magnetic field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We investigate three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics turbulence in the presence of velocity and magnetic shear (i.e., with both a large-scale shear flow and a nonuniform magnetic field).

Evolution of geometric structures in intense turbulence

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2008
We report measurements of the evolution of lines, planes, and volumes in an intensely turbulent laboratory flow using high-speed particle tracking. We find that the classical characteristic time scale of an eddy at the initial scale of the object considered is the natural time scale for the subsequent evolution.

Turbulence Intensity Similarity Laws For Turbulent Boundary Layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Turbulence intensity similarity laws, which are based on the attached eddy hypothesis, are tested with new high Reynolds number data obtained in the atmospheric surface layer. The existing formulation for the streamwise component was until now restricted to the log region and above.
