Shell to shell energy transfer in MHD, Part I: steady state turbulence

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the transfer of energy from large scales to small scales in fully developed forced three-dimensional MHD-turbulence by analyzing the results of direct numerical simulations in the absence of an externally imposed uniform magnetic field ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Whistler turbulence vs. whistler anisotropy instability: Particle-in-cell simulation and statistical analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
Particle-in-Cell simulations and statistical analysis are carried out to study the dynamic evolution of a collisionless, magnetized plasma with co-existing whistler turbulence and electron temperature anisotropy as the initial condition, and the ...

A two Turbulence Kinetic Energy model as a scale‐adaptive approach to modeling the planetary boundary layer

open access: yes, 2016
A two Turbulence Kinetic Energy (2TKE) model is developed to address the boundary layer “grey zone” problem. The model combines ideas from local and nonlocal models into a single energetically consistent framework.

The values of wall shear stress, turbulence kinetic energy and blood pressure gradient are associated with atherosclerotic plaque erosion in rabbits.

open access: yesJournal of atherosclerosis and thrombosis, 2014
AIM To clarify the contribution of hemodynamic factors to the onset of plaque erosion in smooth muscle cell (SMC)-rich atherosclerotic plaque. METHODS We developed a rabbit model of SMC-rich atherosclerotic plaque with various degree of stenosis ...

A Hydrodynamic Bioreactor for High‐Yield Production of Extracellular Vesicles from Stem Cell Spheroids with Defined Cargo Profiling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study harnesses hydrodynamic flows to generate, confine and stimulate stem cell spheroids, enabling the large‐scale production of extracellular vesicles (EVs). This innovative method not only streamlines spheroid formation and subsequent EV release in a single, integrated process, but also ensures the generation of EVs with enhanced biological ...

Jitter Mechanism as a Kind of Coherent Radiation: Constrained by the GRB 221009A Emission at 18 TeV

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The emission of gamma-ray burst (GRB) 221009A at 18 TeV has been detected by the large high-altitude air shower observatory. We suggest jitter radiation as a possible explanation for the TeV emission for this energetic GRB. In our scenario, the radiation

Holographic Vortex Liquids and Superfluid Turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Superfluid turbulence, often referred to as quantum turbulence, is a fascinating phenomenon for which a satisfactory theoretical framework is lacking. Holographic duality provides a systematic new approach to studying quantum turbulence by mapping the ...

Kinetic-magnetic energy exchanges in rotating magnetohydrodynamic turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Turbulence, 2019
We use direct numerical simulations to study the dynamics of incom-pressible homogeneous turbulence subjected to a uniform magnetic field B in a rotating frame with rotation vector. We consider two cases: B and ⊥ B. The initial state is homogeneous isotropic hydrodynamic turbulence with Reynolds number Re = u l l/ν 170. The magnetic Prandtl number Pm =

Miniature Robotic Swimmer with Precise 2D Motion Control via Acoustic Vortex‐Induced Propulsion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, a miniature robotic swimmer achieves precise 2D motion using sound waves with customized 3D‐printed lenses. Localized acoustic vortices drive both translation and rotation of the swimmer without mechanical parts. This contactless approach offers a novel route to controlled micro‐scale movement, with promising applications in biomedical ...
