Astrophysical turbulence modeling [PDF]

open access: yesReports on Progress in Physics, 2011
The role of turbulence in various astrophysical settings is reviewed. Among the differences to laboratory and atmospheric turbulence we highlight the ubiquitous presence of magnetic fields that are generally produced and maintained by dynamo action.

Renormalization of the shell model of turbulence

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2023
Renormalization enables a systematic scale-by-scale analysis of multiscale systems. In this paper, we employ \textit{renormalization group} (RG) to the shell model of turbulence and show that the RG equation is satisfied by $ |u_n|^2 =K_\mathrm{Ko} ε^{2/3} k_n^{-2/3}$ and $ ν_n = ν_* \sqrt{K_\mathrm{Ko}} ε^{1/3} k_n^{-4/3}$, where $k_n, u_n $ are the ...

Anisotropic RANS Turbulence Modeling for Wakes in an Active Ocean Environment

open access: yesFluids, 2020
The problem of simulating wakes in a stratified oceanic environment with active background turbulence is considered. Anisotropic RANS turbulence models are tested against laboratory and eddy-resolving models of the problem.

CONFORMAL MODELS OF MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC TURBULENCE [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 1996
Following the previous work of Ferretti and Yang on the role of magnetic fields in the theory of conformal turbulence, we show that nonunitary minimal model solutions to two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) obtained by dimensional reduction from three dimensions exist under different (and more restrictive) conditions.

Modelling the Dynamics of Turbulent Floods [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2003
Consider the dynamics of turbulent flow in rivers, estuaries and floods. Based on the widely used k-epsilon model for turbulence, we use the techniques of centre manifold theory to derive dynamical models for the evolution of the water depth and of vertically averaged flow velocity and turbulent parameters. This new model for the shallow water dynamics

Evaluation of Turbulence Models in Unsteady Separation

open access: yes, 2023
Unsteady separation is a phenomenon that occurs in many flows and results in increased drag, decreased lift, noise emission, and loss of efficiency or failure in flow devices.

Numerical Investigation on Influence of Gas and Turbulence Model for Type III Hydrogen Tank under Discharge Condition

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The high-pressure gaseous hydrogen (HPGH2) storage method is widely used owing to the low density of hydrogen gas at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure.

Simulation of the Temperature of a Shielding Induction Motor of the Nuclear Main Pump under Different Turbulence Models

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
Thermal design and the choice of turbulence models are crucial for motors. In this project, the geometrical model of the vertical shielding induction motor for a small nuclear main pump was established by SolidWorks software and the finite volume method ...

Comparison of turbulence models for solving problems of swirling jet flows [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
There are several turbulence models that can be used to solve the swirling jet problems, which are typical turbulence problems. A comparison of these models allows us to determine which one is better suited for a given task.

Influence of the Blunt Trailing-Edge Thickness on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of the Very Thick Airfoil

open access: yesWind, 2023
In this paper, the NWT600 airfoil with a thickness ratio of 60% is taken as the research object. The aerodynamic performance of the airfoil is analyzed by experiments and numerical simulations.
