Turbulent boundary layer manipulation by outer-layer devices
Meccanica, 1995A turbulent boundary layer manipulated by outer-layer devices has been studied. Experiments have been conducted in the 0.70 by 0.50 m2 low speed wind tunnel of the ‘Modesto Panetti’ Aeronautical Laboratory of the Politecnico di Torino. Mean values and turbulent quantities measured in the natural and manipulated boundary layers are shown for comparison.

Two experimental studies of turbulent boundary layers are described. The first was begun as part of a search for more accurate knowledge of the structure and motion of the large-scale eddy motions that appear to control the rate of entrainment of non-turbulent fluid and which may also play a dominant part in the constant-stress layer.

Turbulent Boundary-Layer Simulation with an Array of Loudspeakers
AIAA Journal, 2004The feasibility is discussed of simulating a random pressure field having the same spatial correlation function as a turbulent boundary-layer pressure field using an array of loudspeakers. This approach could provide a cost-effective laboratory method of measuring the boundary-layer noise transmitted through aircraft fuselage structures.

Effects of compressibility on boundary-layer turbulence
9th Fluid and PlasmaDynamics Conference, 1976A series of turbulence measurements in a subsonic compressible turbulent boundary-layer flow in the Mach number range of 0.1 to 0.7 is described. Measurements include detailed surveys of the turbulence intensities and Reynolds shear stresses, and other quantities such as the turbulent kinetic energy.
