Heat Rejection in Condensers: Desuperheating, Condensation in Superheated Region and Two Phase Zone

open access: yes, 2012
Conventional modeling of condensers always assumes three zones: desuperheating, condensation and subcooling even condensation occurs in desuperheating zone at some conditions and that subcooling occurs during condensation. This paper discusses the actual

Natural Bone‐Derived Ceramic Scaffolds Functionalized with Chitosan‐Gold, Chitosan‐Magnesium, and Chitosan‐Zinc for Enhanced Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the development of antibacterial ceramic scaffolds derived from natural bovine bone. The bones were processed through sequential boiling and hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter, producing porous, mineral‐rich scaffolds.

A study of roughness in turbulent hypersonic boundary-layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The influence of large scale regular roughness on a Mach 5 turbulent boundary layer and a compression corner was investigated on axisymmetric wind tunnel models.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Recent advances in measurement of turbulent reacting flows in which heat transfer is dominated by radiation

open access: yes, 2010
Recent advances in diagnostic methods are providing new capacity for detailed measurement of turbulent, reacting flows in which heat transfer is dominant. Radiation typically becomes dominant in flames containing soot and/or with sufficient physical size,

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Effect of Microfins on Heat Rejection in Desuperheating, Condensation in Superheated Region and Two Phase Zone

open access: yes, 2012
Typical condenser design model simply divides the heat rejection process into de-superheating, two-phase, and subcooling. By neglecting condensation in presence of superheated vapor, error can be introduced. Experimental data on superheated CO2 and R410A

Flow and heat transfer measurements in laminar and turbulent convex surface boundary layers

open access: yes, 2002
Convex surface boundary layers have been experimentally investigated in a low speed wind tunnel, in the presence of pressure gradients (k) of -3.6x10(-6)less than or equal tokless than or equal to+3.6x10(-6) for laminar and -0.6x10(-6)less than or equal ...
