Integrating ecological feedbacks across scales and levels of organization

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
In ecosystems, species interact in various ways with other species, and with their local environment. In addition, ecosystems are coupled in space by diverse types of flows. From these links connecting different ecological entities can emerge circular pathways of indirect effects: feedback loops.

Telepathy, Other Minds, and Category Errors

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract In this paper, I explore several issues surrounding what is called “telepathy” in the context of the problem of other minds. I begin with a quick review of the conditions in which this notion arose and the difficulties to which it gave rise upon its introduction.

Single-cell morphometrics reveals T-box gene-dependent patterns of epithelial tension in the Second Heart field

open access: yesNature Communications
The vertebrate heart tube extends by progressive addition of epithelial second heart field (SHF) progenitor cells from the dorsal pericardial wall. The interplay between epithelial mechanics and genetic mechanisms during SHF deployment is unknown.

Globally Stable Microresonator Turing Pattern Formation for Coherent High-Power THz Radiation On-Chip

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2017
In nonlinear microresonators driven by continuous-wave (cw) lasers, Turing patterns have been studied in the formalism of the Lugiato-Lefever equation with emphasis on their high coherence and exceptional robustness against perturbations. Destabilization

Economic burden of sickle cell disease in Australia

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited condition that impairs red blood cell function, posing a substantial health burden on patients. As the prevalence of SCD in Australia rises due to migration, discussions surrounding treatment and management strategies are becoming more prominent. Aims Australia lacks a dedicated study on the

Early suppression of excitability in subcortical band heterotopia modifies epileptogenesis in rats

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2023
Malformations of cortical development represent a major cause of epilepsy in childhood. However, the pathological substrate and dynamic changes leading to the development and progression of epilepsy remain unclear.

Clustering Longitudinal Data: A Review of Methods and Software Packages

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, EarlyView.
Summary Clustering of longitudinal data is becoming increasingly popular in many fields such as social sciences, business, environmental science, medicine and healthcare. However, it is often challenging due to the complex nature of the data, such as dependencies between observations collected over time, missingness, sparsity and non‐linearity, making ...

Protocol to image and analyze hippocampal network dynamics in non-anesthetized mouse pups

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2023
Summary: Two-photon calcium imaging is a powerful technique that has revolutionized our understanding of how neural circuit dynamics supports different behaviors and cognitive processes. However, performing imaging during development remains challenging.
