This article deals with the issue of proverbs widely used among the Uzbek and Turkic peoples; their formal and semantic similarities are examined. Some proverbs are presented in comparison with each other. The question of how the similarities between them were formed is discussed.

Paul Stirling is known to be the first person to have done ethnographic field research in Turkey for his seminal work Turkish Village (1965), a classic in Turkish anthropolgy. Probably, he was also the only anthropologist to have researched the social structure, change and transformation in a Turkish village at this scale (1949-52, 1971, 1986, and 1993)
