Election Day Voter Registration in Vermont [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have analyzed the likely impact on voter turnout should Vermont adopt Election Day Registration (EDR). Under the system proposed in Vermont, eligible voters who miss the current six-day deadline for registering by mail may be able to register to vote ...

Exciton Binding Energy Modulation in 2D Perovskites: A Phenomenological Keldysh Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The intrinsic screening effects are successfully decoupled from structural distortion by rigorously designing a series of 2D perovskites. This enabled us to demonstrate how the dielectric environment modulates the quasiparticle bandgap and exciton binding energy.

Real-Time Prewarning Method of Subway Turnout Jamming Failure Based on Short-Term Load Prediction and Ensemble LVQ Learning

open access: yesIEEE Access
Turnout is the key equipment for realizing the turnback of subway trains. Frequent movements and environmental changes often lead to abnormal increases in resistance during turnout conversion, resulting in jamming failures that directly affect traffic ...

The Effect of Amino Acids on the Formation of Amorphous Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biomineral formation often proceeds via the assembly of amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) nanoparticles with narrow size distributions. Using in situ SAXS coupled to a stopped‐flow device, we follow synthetic ACC formation with a 10 ms time resolution and show that amino acids narrow the size distribution at low supersaturation, highlighting their key ...

Intelligent Identification Method for ZDJ-9 AC Turnout Switch Machine Faults

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
Objective By analyzing abnormal three-phase action currents of AC switch machines, it is possible to identify faults in the turnout equipment. However, due to the constant operation of switch machines for large number of turnouts on urban rail transit ...

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...

Public Opinion Polls, Voter Turnout, and Welfare: An Experimental Study [PDF]

open access: yes
We experimentally study the impact of public opinion poll releases on voter turnout and welfare in a participation game. We find higher turnout rates when polls inform the electorate about the levels of support for various candidates than when polls are ...

Dual‐Functional Li2B4O7 Coating on Carbon Fibers for Enhanced Li+ Transport and Stability in Sulfide All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐functional Li2B4O7 coating on carbon fibers is designed to resolve the critical interfacial degradation in sulfide all‐solid‐state batteries. The conformal layer acts as a physical barrier to suppress parasitic reactions while its unique dielectric properties simultaneously facilitate Li+ transport.

Sharing Competences: The Impact of Local Institutional Settings on Voter Turnout [PDF]

open access: yes
Institutions are common predictors of voter turnout. Most research in this field focuses on cross-country comparisons of voting systems, like the impact of compulsory voting or registration systems.
