Upscaling the Fabrication of Rod‐Shaped Microgels: A Microfluidic Method Combining Step‐Emulsification With Consecutive Droplet Confinement in Parallelized Microchannels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A microfluidic method is presented which enables parallelized fabrication of rod‐shaped microgels, based on step‐emulsification (SE) droplet generation and subsequent droplet distribution and confinement, combined in a single device. Microgel rods are fabricated in parallel at different flow rates based on two light‐mediated crosslinking chemistries ...

Elemental Tests of the Traditional Rational Voting Model [PDF]

open access: yes
A simple, robust, quasi-linear, structural general equilibrium rational voting model indicates turnout by voters motivated by the possibility of deciding the outcome is bellcurved in the ex-post winning margin and inversely proportional to electorate ...

Lab‐in‐a‐Tube System Integrating Hierarchically Wrinkled Electrodes and DNAzyme‐Functionalized Beads for Diagnosis of Clostridioides difficile Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The point‐of‐care diagnosis of Clostridioides difficile infection remains challenging due to reliance on slow culture and amplification‐based methods. A lab‐in‐a‐tube electrochemical biosensor integrating DNAzymes, antifouling magnetic beads, and a hierarchically structured flow cell enables amplification‐ and culture‐free detection directly in stool ...

Election Day Registration: The Second Wave [PDF]

open access: yes
The number of states with election-day registration (EDR) of voters doubled in the early 1990s, providing a new opportunity to estimate the turnout impact of EDR.

Dual‐State Programmable Oxide Transistor for Time‐Based Cryptography

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A DUPOT enables independently tunable Vth and Isat depending on gate bias polarity, producing three‐dimensional dynamical behavior within a transfer characteristic. This behavior originates from charge trapping and oxygen‐ion migration in the HfO2 layer.

Effects of social norms and fractionalization on voting behavior in Japan [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper uses prefecture-level panel data from Japan, spanning the period 1989–2003, to examine the influence of social norms and fractionalization on voting behavior.

From Surface to Bulk Activation: Tailoring the Porosity and Surface Chemistry of Resorcinol‐Formaldehyde Carbon Sorbents for Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A bulk activation route to produce nanoporous carbons for atmospheric water harvesting by incorporating potassium hydroxide during resorcinol‐formaldehyde polycondensation. These high‐oxygen sorbents deliver daily water yields up to 23 L kg−1 day−1 with great cyclability, providing a scalable solution for water production in diverse climates.

Does motor voter work? Evidence from state-level data [PDF]

open access: yes
Using time-series cross-section data on state-level registration and turnout, "motor voter" registration programs mandated by the National Voter Registration Act are found to be effective in enhancing voter participation in the states that have already ...

Toward Perception‐Native Electronic Skin: Bio‐Inspired In‐/Near‐Sensor and Neuromorphic Computing for Humanoid Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Dense tactile streams from across the humanoid body converge on collide in a central wiring and data bottleneck. By relocating computation closer to and then into the skin itself, near‐ and in‐sensor architectures, together with neuromorphic computing, chart a path toward perception‐native electronic skin, in which the conversion of stimulus into ...
