Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Turnout Decline in Romanian National Elections: Is it that Big?

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai Sociologia, 2015
According to official data, Romanian voter turnout decreased by half for the period 1990-2012. Gaps between official and self-reported turnout are larger than those from similar countries.

It All Happens at Once: Understanding Electoral Behaviour in Second-Order Elections

open access: yesPolitics and Governance, 2020
The second-order election (SOE) model as originally formulated by Reif and Schmitt (1980) suggests that, relative to the preceding first-order election result, turnout is lower in SOEs, government and big parties lose, and small and ideologically extreme

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Control Algorithm of Train Autonomous Control System in Turnout Safety Zones

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] Unlike the existing CBTC (communication-based train control) system control mechanism, the ATC (autonomous train control) system achieves autonomous train operation by directly controlling wayside resources.

Evolution‐guided yeast complementation reveals functional differences in human PSPH variants

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ancient genomes can help guide which human genetic variants are tested experimentally. This study applies that idea to PSPH, a gene involved in serine biosynthesis, and uses high‐throughput yeast complementation to compare variant function. The findings reveal measurable differences among selected alleles and illustrate the value of evolution‐guided ...

Research on wear and grinding models of high-speed turnouts based on semi-Hertz contact

open access: yesScientific Reports
In order to reduce turnout rail wear, the paper establishes a coupled dynamics model and a turnout rail wear model that consider the true profile of the turnout rail, the vehicle’s continuous traction force while passing, and the operational resistance ...

Integrated Locking Compensation Mechanism between Suspended Track Beams and Turnout Beams

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] To compensate for the preset turnout safety gap between track beam and switch beam of the mobile turnout in the suspended monorail transit system, ensure reliable locking when turnout is in place, and improve the safety and passenger comfort ...

Safety and Tolerability of Givinostat: Evidence From Real‐World and Clinical Practice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aim of our study was to establish the prevalence of adverse events in a real‐world setting in boys living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) treated with givinostat as part of an Expanded Access Program (EAP) in Italy. Methods The cohort included 90 ambulant boys, with age when treatment started between 6 and 23 years (mean ...
