Performance Evaluation of Anti-Freezing Heaters for Turnout Switch by FEM Heat Transfer Analysis

open access: yesTRANSACTIONS OF THE JAPAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS Series B, 2007
Incorporation of water sprinklers for snow melting and anti-freezing heaters for turnout switches are decided as a snow-fighting measure in Winter-season at a section between Hachinohe station and Shin-Aomori station on Tohoku Shinkansen line. It is therefore indispensable to examine the energy output and arrangements of the heaters to meet the users ...

A Self‐Organized Liquid Reaction Container for Cellular Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
How cells restore epigenetic information lost during replication is not known. This work proposes a mechanism based on the formation of biomolecular condensates. These condensates are induced by the chromosome itself and serve as reaction vessels for reconstructing missing epigenetic markers.

A Fault Diagnosis Method for Turnout Switch Machines Based on Sound Signals

open access: yesElectronics
The turnout switch machine, a vital outdoor component of railway signaling, controls train steering amidst complex operations and high frequencies. Its malfunction significantly disrupts train operations, potentially causing derailments. This paper proposes a sound-based fault diagnosis method, termed ERS (a method combining EMD, ReliefF, and SVM), for

Time to Vote? [PDF]

open access: yes
Despite the centrality of voting costs to the paradox of voting, little effort has been made to accurately measure these costs outside of a few spatially limited case studies.

Artificial Neuron Based on Electrical Anisotropy from WSe2 Field Effect Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An artificial neuron was realized based on the anisotropic mobility of WSe2. Dendritic and axon‐multisynaptic performance of a neuron was achieved with optical and voltage pulses. Recognition accuracy of handwritten digits was obtained to 97% based on the synaptic weight of an artificial neuron.

Manufacturing Process of Straddle Monorail Beam-switching Turnout

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] Due to the diverse components, complex internal structures, and significant deformation risks of straddle monorail beam-switching turnout, issues such as improper component installation, welding-induced thermal deformation, and stress concentration may arise during the manufacturing process, leading the products failure in meeting the ...

How unstable? Volatility and the genuinely new parties in Eastern Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Measuring of party system stability in Eastern Europe during the first decade of democratic elections presents problems. The traditional quantitative measure - volatility - does not distinguish between the dynamics among incumbent parties and the rise of

Redox‐Programmed Activation of a Dual‐Modal Probe for High‐Fidelity Tumor Delineation and Image‐Guided Surgery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a glutathione (GSH)‐activatable dual‐modality probe (GAP9) with a redox‐tuned activation window for precise tumor detection. It remains quenched (“OFF”) in normal tissue yet activates specifically in tumors for T1‐weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) preoperative mapping and near‐infrared II (NIR‐II) fluorescence intraoperative

The 2007 Provincial Election and Electoral System Referendum in Ontario [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Ontario’s general election in Oct. 10, 2007, was unprecedented for several reasons. The election was held on a date fixed by legislation and not one set by the premier or his caucus, something new to Ontario and relatively new to Canadian politics ...
