Conceptive Estrus Behavior in Three Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) [PDF]
Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) are a highly promiscuous species that routinely engage in socio-sexual interactions, yet relatively little has been reported about actual estrus behavior.

ABSTRACT Biphonation—the simultaneous production of two independent fundamental frequencies within a single vocalization—is a prominent feature of killer whale calls, yet the factors influencing the presence and intensity of heterodyne frequencies, which arise from interactions between these fundamentals, remain poorly understood. We analyzed long‐term

Genetic Identification and Population Assignment of Extralimital Sightings of Hector's Dolphins
ABSTRACT Genetic identification from extralimital sightings can determine whether an individual comes from a small or large population, with conservation implications. Such is the case for the endangered Hector's and critically endangered Māui dolphins of Aotearoa/New Zealand. We compare the success of three opportunistic sampling methodologies (biopsy,

Is Blood Thicker Than Water? The Influence of Kin Within a Bull Shark Social Network
This study investigates how kinship (“kinfluence”) shapes social structure in an aggregation of adult bull sharks in Fiji by integrating genomic relatedness, pedigree reconstruction, and detailed behavioral data. It reveals that while genetic relatedness has a small but significant influence on social behavior, especially among males, kin‐category ...

Blindfolded Imitation in a Bottlenose Dolphin ( Tursiops truncatus )
This study investigated the ability of a bottlenose dolphin to adapt a previously learned "do-as-I-do"procedure to copy behaviors of another dolphin while blindfolded (i.e., wearing eyecups). In Experiment 1, the dolphin was able to copy both vocal and motor behaviors, whether blindfolded or sighted.

Pathological and parasitological investigations in an adult bottlenose dolphin (tursiops truncatus) [PDF]
This case aimed to perform pathological and parasitological examinations on an adult male bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), which was found dead on the coast of Aegean Sea (Kusadasi/Davutlar/Aydin-Turkey).

Indigenous Knowledge systems contain deep, place‐based ecological insights developed over generations but remain underrepresented in biodiversity assessments and conservation planning. This study explores yulendji Bunwurrung (Bunurong knowledge) through five Stories shared by a Bunurong Elder, using thematic analysis and comparison with contemporary ...
