1990Many people think that the pressing economic problems facing the United States can be cured by eliminating its twin deficits - the budget deficit and the trade deficit - via a more stringent fiscal policy. In my view, however, these twin deficits are not the problem.

Applied Economics, 1999This paper explores the relationship between budget and trade deficits in a small open economy using annual data. The purpose of the paper is to test empirically the validity and rationale of the Keynesian proposition (conventional view) and the Ricardian equivalence hypothesis.
