Background: Factors contributing to the development of alexithymia and the nature of alexithymia’s relation with trait negative and positive affectivity are unclear. In this study, a twin approach was used to examine the degree of genetic and environmental contributions to the different facets of alexithymia, and the nature of their ...

Clinical Genetics, 2012
Twin studies provide a method for estimating the heritability of phenotypes and for examining genetic and environmental relationships between phenotypes. We conducted a systematic review of twin studies of pain, including both clinical and experimental pain phenotypes. Fifty‐six papers were included, whereof 52 addressed clinical phenotypes.

1. By means of the twin family method and up to the end of 1947, a representative sample of 1,602 twin index cases over 6o years of age was collected from both the general and institutionalized populations of the state of New York, in order to study the biological, social, and psychiatric problems of senescence under experiment-like, but mankind ...

AbstractIn order to reassess the relative importance of genetic and environmental factors in the development of myopia in Chinese schoolchildren, 90 pairs of MZ and 36 pairs of like-sex DZ twins were enrolled for detailed ophthalmological examination about their ocular refractions. Corneal curvatures and axial lengths were also measured.

Studies of twins in vaccinology
Vaccine, 2007In this survey, we review published investigations and trials of vaccines among twins. We identified 29 original studies, dating back to 1979. The studies include determinations of the role of genetics and environment in the variation in immune response to vaccination, the investigation of adverse events in which vaccination was the suspected etiologic

Motivated by the phenomena of twinning, trilling, etc., the paper provides estimates of the invariance groups of crystals which have multi- valued constitutive functions (potentials). It gives a necessary and sufficient condition relating the invariance group to the number of branches of the constitutive function.

There is still limited understanding of the causal pathways underlying the observed association between exposures during fetal life and later health and disease in humans. Without better understanding we cannot estimate public health implications and assess the potential for intervention.

The object of the study was to make an objective assessment of the validity of ascertaining personality from handwriting. The subjects chosen for the research were twenty-four pairs of identical and twenty-four pairs of non-identical twins. Personality scores were obtained from each subject, and each pair of twins was rated by their parent(s) on a ...
