A case of thoracopagus conjoined twins encountered in the second stage of labor is presented. Delivery was possible by the vaginal route after reducing the fetal bulk by destructive operations. Problems in obstetric management of these cases are discussed and the importance of proper antenatal evaluation is stressed.

AbstractFour partially duplicated newborn rabbits were observed in 252 births in the inbred strain Y at The Jackson Laboratory within a 12‐month period. Two of these were full sibs and a third was a half sib of these two sets. This frequency is significant and highly suggestive of genetic transmission.

Abstract. A small “epidemic” of conjoined twinning is reported occurring at the Skövde Central hospital in 1975–76. Three pairs were observed, the annual birth number is 2300. During a ten‐year period, 10 cases of conjoined twinning were reported to the Register of Congenital Malformations in Sweden, indicating a probable incidence of 1: 75 000 births.

The incidence of conjoined twins is rare, occurring in one in 50–80000 live births. The rarity of the occurrence presents quite a management challenge. The first case in New Zealand of successfully separated thoraco‐omphalagus twins, presenting top‐to‐tail, is described.
