Coeliac disease in monozygotic twins [PDF]

open access: yesPostgraduate Medical Journal, 1982
Summary A case of concordance for coeliac disease in monozygous twins is reported. One presented with failure to enter puberty and responded to the exclusion of gluten from her diet. The other twin was asymptomatic. They represent a well documented example of monozygous twins with concordance for coeliac disease.

Reduced occurrence of alpha waves during resting state predicts high attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder traits in young adults

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition with significant cognitive and social impacts. Identifying reliable biomarkers for ADHD is crucial for developing personalised therapies. Electroencephalography (EEG) alpha oscillations (8–12 Hz) have been suggested as a potential biomarker, but ...

Disentangling shared and unique effects of parenting on psychopathology: Evidence from two prospective, genetically sensitive cohort studies

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Multiple dimensions of parenting–including hostility, conflict, and warmth–are associated with an array of mental disorders in youth. We tested two possible explanations for these associations: Parenting may shape a shared liability to experience many forms of psychopathology (“shared‐liability” hypothesis), or parenting may shape ...

Discordance of cardiovascular abnormalities in a monozygotic twin pair carrying a class II 1q21.1 microdeletion

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2020
Objective: We present the prenatal diagnosis of a class II 1q21.1 microdeletion in monozygotic (MZ) twins with discordant phenotypes. Case report: A monochorionic diamniotic twin pair presented with discordant ultrasound anomalies; twin A had ...

Association between ADHD symptoms and device‐measured physical activity and sedentary behavior in childhood: A population‐based twin study

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms are associated with adverse health outcomes; this may be partially due to unhealthy lifestyle factors such as low physical activity (PA) and high sedentary behavior (SED). However, this association remains unclear.

An abortion of monozygotic twins in a warmblood mare

open access: yes, 2009
Naturally occurring monozygotic twins are extremely rare in the horse. This paper describes an abortion in a mare after 260 days of pregnancy with monozygotic twins, one a fresh foal and the other a mummified ...

Interventions and Perinatal Outcomes Associated With Recipient Twin Cardiomyopathy in the Setting of Twin‐To‐Twin Transfusion Syndrome: A Systematic Review

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine (1) Whether the presence and severity of recipient twin cardiomyopathy in the setting of twin‐to‐twin transfusion syndrome are associated with worse perinatal outcomes when compared to recipient twins without evidence of cardiomyopathy and (2) The optimal management strategy to reduce the likelihood of adverse perinatal ...

Trigger Twins: 2 Cases of Ipsilateral Twin Trigger Digit and a Review of Published Literature

open access: yesCase Reports in Orthopedics, 2019
Background. The aetiology of trigger digits has been debated since Notta first described them in 1850. Aetiology has been segregated for adult and paediatric presentations. While an adult trigger digit is most likely an acquired inflammatory process, the

Alterations in Metabolites Associated With Umbilical Cord Blood in Monozygotic Twins Discordant for Congenital Heart Disease

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
This study found that the metabolomic signature of umbilical venous cord blood in congenital heart disease (CHD) differs from that of healthy monozygotic (MZ) co‐twins. Dysregulation of metabolic pathways like glucose, lipid, and amino acid metabolism, along with altered metabolites, helps understand CHD predisposition.
