Twin–Twin Transfusion Syndrome

Seminars in Perinatology, 2012
Twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a serious condition that affects 10% to 15% of twin pregnancies with monochorionic diamniotic placentation. The pathophysiology of TTTS is not completely understood; however, the presence of unbalanced placental vascular communications within a shared circulation has been implicated in its development.

Twin-twin transfusion syndrome

Hospital Medicine, 1999
Twin–twin transfusion syndrome is a complication of monochorionic twin pregnancies associated with extremely high perinatal morbidity and mortality. This article describes the ultrasound features associated with this condition and possible pathophysiological mechanisms.

Twin–Twin Transfusion Syndrome Modeling

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2007
Abstract:  The twin–twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a severe complication occurring in monochorionic twins, and untreated, causes high rates of mortality and morbidity. In TTTS, five consecutive stages of increasing severity can be distinguished: first, the oligopolyhydramnios sequence; second, anuria in the donor twin; third, abnormal flow waves ...

Twins and twinning

American Journal of Medical Genetics, 1996
Humans have always been fascinated by twins. Studies of monozygotic (MZ) (identical) and dizygotic (fraternal) twins, and the biological processes underlying twinning, has led to remarkable medical and scientific discoveries particularly in the fields of reproduction, epidemiology and genetics. One such finding is that MZ twins are not truly “identical,

Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome

Obstetric Anesthesia Digest, 2013
We sought to review the natural history, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment options for twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS).A systematic review was performed using MEDLINE database, PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library. The search was restricted to English-language articles published from 1966 through July 2012.

Craniopagus twins

Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, 2008
✓Craniopagus twins represent a rare phenomenon of congenital misfortune. Modern neurosurgical techniques have created opportunities for successful separation and the promise of a normal existence for these children, who in the past were often left as historical footnotes or put on display as oddities of nature.

Twinning

The Lancet, 2003
Twinning has fascinated human beings over the centuries. New technologies and large study groups have led to improved documentation of frequency and complications in twin pregnancies and long-term outcomes. Artificial reproductive technologies have led to a pronounced rise in numbers of dizygotic and monozygotic twins.

Twin–twin transfusion syndrome

Clinics in Perinatology, 2003
The understanding and management of twin-twin transfusion syndrome has evolved significantly over the past few years. Improved and standardized sonographic diagnostic criteria, understanding of the heterogeneic nature of the syndrome, development of an anatomical and reproducible surgical technique for the identification of vascular anastomoses, and ...

Data‐driven physics‐based digital twins via a library of component‐based reduced‐order models

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2020
This work proposes an approach that combines a library of component‐based reduced‐order models with Bayesian state estimation in order to create data‐driven physics‐based digital twins.

Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1963
The twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome is an easily identified circulatory disease of twins which imposes immediate, serious, and critically different handicaps on each of identical twin newborns. The syndrome is characterized by severe anemia in one twin and intense plethora in the other; and it is due to unbalanced vascular mixing due to anastomotic ...
