TWISTED HILBERT SPACES AND UNCONDITIONAL STRUCTURE

Journal of the Institute of Mathematics of Jussieu, 2003
In the paper under review, it is proved that if a Banach space \(X\) with an unconditional basis has a subspace \(E\) such that both \(E\) and \(X/E\) are isomorphically Hilbertian, then \(X\) is also isomorphically Hilbertian. As is well known, for general Banach spaces this is not true; cf. \textit{P. Enflo, J. Lindenstrauss} and \textit{G.

Ferroelectric twisted liquid crystal structure

Ferroelectrics, 1998
We propose here a new model of molecular distribution in a ferroelectric twisted liquid crystal sample. Whereas Pavel and Patel asserted that the electric field was homogeneous within the bulk, we have rather assumed than the high spontaneous polarisation of the SmC* phase induces a local polarisation charge in space, which destroys the homogeneity of ...

Twisting procedure on torogonal structures

Journal of Geometry and Physics, 1994
Let \((E,Q)\) be a pseudo-Euclidean vector space and denote by \((E',Q')\) its complexification. The Clifford group \(\Gamma(Q')\) is the subgroup of the Clifford algebra \(C(Q')\) consisting of the elements \(g\) which satisfy \(\alpha(g)xg^{-1}\in E'\) for all \(x\in E'\): \[ 1\to C^*\to \Gamma(Q')@> p>> O(Q')\to 1. \] Denote by \(N: \Gamma(Q')\to C\)

Light with twist and structure

Science, 2015
Optics Mobius strips are three-dimensional structures consisting of a surface with just a single side. Readily demonstrated by snipping a paper ring, adding a twist, and then joining the ends of paper together again, these structures have intriguing mathematical properties in terms of topology and geometry. Spin structures with a twist

Physics World, 1990
Puzzling experimental results for the magnetization and magnetic phases of the rare-earth metal holmium, that have lingered unexplained for some 20 years, may now be understood following the discovery of a new type of magnetic structure by Jens Jensen and Allan Mackintosh at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark (1990 Phys. Rev. Lett. 64 2699).
