Surface Temperature Measurement with Unknown Emissivity Using a Two-color Pyrometer Placed with a Reflector

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
An instrument for measuring surface temperature above 773 K has been developed. A gold-plated reflector is placed ahead of a two-color pyrometer. When the reflector is positioned facing the measured target, the received radiation is increased, and the difference between the effective emissivities of the two received wavelengths is shortened.

High‐Performance n‐type Organic Thermoelectric Aerogels Toward Flexible Energy Harvesting and Sensing Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, Volume 12, Issue 2, 21 January 2026.
An n‐type organic thermoelectric aerogel PB@CNF, based on PBFDO, is fabricated by a two‐step freeze‐drying process with cellulose nanofiber (CNF) as substrate. The aerogels can be used not only as temperature sensing and piezoresistive sensing, but also to form a flexible organic thermoelectric generator with the p‐type aerogel (PH@CNF) based on PEDOT ...

High Coherence Times in NV‐Doped Diamond Films for Quantum Sensing

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), Volume 223, Issue 2, January 2026.
This study demonstrates the growth of micrometer‐thin diamond films with nitrogen‐vacancy centers exhibiting record‐long spin coherence times at room temperature. By combining isotopic purification, controlled nitrogen incorporation, and strain minimization, the authors achieve coherence times approaching theoretical limits, paving the way for highly ...

Melting point of group IV and V transition metal diborides

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
The environmental conical nozzle levitator system enables cooling trace experiments above 4000 K. These cooling trace experiments were used to determine the melting points through observation of thermal arrest of group IV and V transition metal diborides (TiB2, Tm = 3313 ± 33 K; ZrB2, Tm = 3404 ± 38 K; HfB2, Tm = 3529 ± 33 K; and TaB2, Tm = 3284 ± 10 K;

Phase selection in Ln(Fe, Mn)O3: Insights from undercooling experiments, tolerance factor, and crystal field splitting

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Containerless solidification experiments reveal nucleation and liquidus temperatures for LnFeO3. The metastable hexagonal phase forms for Ln = Lu–Eu, whereas the stable orthorhombic phase dominates beyond this range. Phase selection is governed by the tolerance factor and crystal field splitting in the MeO5 units.

Enhanced Light–Matter Interactions With a Single Sn Nanoantenna on Epitaxial Graphene

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 36, December 19, 2025.
Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) is a leading method for surpassing the diffraction limit in analytical detection and exploring light‐matter interactions. In this study, a single plasmonic Sn nanoantenna is employed on epitaxial graphene, achieving extraordinary enhancement of graphene Raman signals.

Photoluminescence Properties of Type‐II GaSb/GaAs Quantum Rings

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study examines the magneto‐optical properties of GaSb/GaAs quantum rings (QRs) using photoluminescence spectroscopy. Recombination dynamics in single‐ and ten‐layer structures are analyzed through activation energy extraction, optical absorption profiling, and observation of a strong excitation‐induced blue shift. Carrier lifetime is also increase

Microstructure Control and Hot Cracking Prevention During Laser Additive Manufacturing of Cobalt-Based Superalloy

open access: yesCrystals
Hot cracking is a frequent and severe defect that occurs during laser additive manufacturing of superalloys. In this work, a pulsed-wave (PW) laser modulation process was employed to control the solidification microstructure and reduce the hot cracking ...
