Two-Stage Bandits

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1988
Two stochastic processes, or ``arms'', that yield dichotomous responses are available for use in a two-stage decision problem. During the first stage, arms are chosen sequentially; the resulting observations are discounted by a fixed value \(\beta\). A single arm must be used in the second stage, in which observations are not discounted.

Risk Factors and Management of Prosthetic Joint Infections in Megaprostheses—A Review of the Literature

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) is the most common mode of failure of megaprostheses, yet the literature on the topic is scarce, and studies report conflicting data regarding the optimal treatment strategy.

A systematic review of the evidence for single stage and two stage revision of infected knee replacement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Periprosthetic infection about the knee is a devastating complication that may affect between 1% and 5% of knee replacement. With over 79 000 knee replacements being implanted each year in the UK, periprosthetic infection (PJI) is set to ...

A Novel Two-Stage Heart Arrhythmia Ensemble Classifier

open access: yesComputers, 2021
Atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular arrhythmia (Arr) are among the most common and fatal cardiac arrhythmias in the world. Electrocardiogram (ECG) data, collected as part of the UK Biobank, represents an opportunity for analysis and classification ...

Meta‐analysis of Gaussian individual patient data: Two‐stage or not two‐stage? [PDF]

open access: yesStatistics in Medicine, 2018
Quantitative evidence synthesis through meta‐analysis is central to evidence‐based medicine. For well‐documented reasons, the meta‐analysis of individual patient data is held in higher regard than aggregate data. With access to individual patient data, the analysis is not restricted to a “two‐stage” approach (combining estimates and standard errors ...

Modeling and Simulation of a Two-Stage Air Cooled Adsorption Chiller with Heat Recovery Part I: Physical and Mathematical Performance Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
In the proposed work, the MATLAB program was used to model and simulate the performance of the investigated two-stage adsorption chiller with and without heat recovery using an activated carbon/methanol pair.

On Scheduling Two-Stage Jobs on Multiple Two-Stage Flowshops

open access: yesCoRR, 2018
Motivated by the current research in data centers and cloud computing, we study the problem of scheduling a set of two-stage jobs on multiple two-stage flowshops. A new formulation for configurations of such scheduling is proposed, which leads directly to improvements to the complexity of scheduling algorithms for the problem.

Phased-Array Radar Task Scheduling Method for Hypersonic-Glide Vehicles

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The radar task scheduling problem of phased-array radar (PAR) in detecting hypersonic-glide vehicle (HGV) targets has been studied. Based on the hypersonic-glide vehicle motion-model and detection model, a two-stage scheduling strategy was designed. Task
