A decomposition-based warm-start method for stochastic programming [PDF]
In this paper we propose a warm-start technique for interior point methods applicable to multi-stage stochastic linear programming problems. The main idea is to generate an initial point by decomposing the problem at the second stage and using an ...

An alternative way of looking at tolerance optimization is presented through a stochastic perspective by accounting for both manufacturing process uncertainty as well as uncertain market conditions.

A Review on the Performance of Linear and Mixed Integer Two-Stage Stochastic Programming Software
This paper presents a tutorial on the state-of-the-art software for the solution of two-stage (mixed-integer) linear stochastic programs and provides a list of software designed for this purpose.

Modelling and solution methods for stochastic optimisation [PDF]
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. In this thesis we consider two research problems, namely, (i) language constructs for modelling stochastic programming (SP) problems and (ii) solution ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

A Two-Stage Stochastic Linear Programming Model for Tactical Planning in the Soybean Supply Chain
Background: The soybean market is representative of the world. Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of this crop and has low production costs but high logistical costs, which are influenced mainly by transport costs. Added to these characteristics,

On Generating Lagrangian Cuts for Two-Stage Stochastic Integer Programs
We investigate new methods for generating Lagrangian cuts to solve two-stage stochastic integer programs. Lagrangian cuts can be added to a Benders reformulation and are derived from solving single scenario integer programming subproblems identical to those used in the nonanticipative Lagrangian dual of a stochastic integer program.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

The Value of Stochastic Modeling in Two-Stage Stochastic Programs with Cost Uncertainty [PDF]
Although stochastic programming is probably the most effective framework for handling decision problems that involve uncertain variables, it is always a costly task to formulate the stochastic model that accurately embodies our knowledge of these variables.
