Ménière's Disease: A Tri‐Decade Scoping Review of Treatment Trends and Evidence Quality

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 10, Page 4482-4488, October 2026.
This tri‐decade scoping review of Ménière's disease literature reveals a significant increase in high‐level evidence and a clinical pivot toward hearing‐preserving interventions, such as intratympanic steroids and cochlear implants. However, a significant quality paradox has emerged, where adherence to standardized AAO‐HNS reporting and diagnostic ...

Technical Skills Development for Medical Students in an Otolaryngology Mentorship Program

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 10, Page 4234-4242, October 2026.
This study demonstrates that a longitudinal otolaryngology mentorship program integrating technical skills training can significantly improve both objective performance and self‐reported confidence among medical students. Through faculty mentorship and early exposure to suturing, flexible laryngoscopy, and tympanostomy tube insertion, students ...

Eustachian Tube Opening in Children With and Without Cleft Palate and Association With Otitis Media

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 10, Page 4542-4551, October 2026.
Using transnasal endoscopy in 50 children, structural abnormalities of the torus tubarius—particularly the posterior lip—were significantly more common in children with cleft palate than in those without (52% vs. 20%). Adenoid size, dynamic Eustachian tube opening visibility, and the Eustachian Tube Inflammation Scale correlated with middle ear status ...

The Role of Cochlear Anatomy in Hearing Preservation After Cochlear Implantation in Adults: A Systematic Review

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 11, Issue 5, October 2026.
Cochlear anatomy may influence hearing preservation following cochlear implantation in adults with residual hearing. Longer cochlear duct length and larger cochlear volume showed the most consistent associations with favorable hearing preservation, whereas deeper electrode insertion may be associated with poorer outcomes.

IGF‐1/SLC25A33 Maintains Blood‐Labyrinth Barrier Integrity by Suppressing TGF‐β/Smad2‐Mediated Pericyte Activation in Age‐Related Hearing Loss

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
IGF‐1/SLC25A33–TGF‐β/Smad2 axis can regulate pericyte activation and BLB integrity, which may be a potential therapeutic target for preserving hearing in ARHL. ABSTRACT Age‐related hearing loss (ARHL) is a prevalent sensory disorder in the elderly, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying cochlear aging remain incompletely understood. While insulin‐like
