Endoscopic tympanoplasty type I using interlay technique

open access: yesJournal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 2022
Background Tympanoplasty using the interlay technique has rarely been reported in transcanal endoscopic ear surgery, unlike the underlay technique. This is because many surgeons find it challenging to detach the epithelial layer of the tympanic membrane ...

Ipsilateral cochlear implantation in cases with vestibular schwannoma

open access: yesEye &ENT Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Vestibular schwannomas (VS) are the most common tumors in the cerebellopontine angle, which can lead to hearing loss, particularly following tumor resection. For patients with bilateral VS associated with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2), hearing loss significantly undermines their quality of life.

Cavernous Hemangioma of the Tympanic Membrane

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology, 2011
Cavernous hemangioma seems to most frequently arise in the posterior portion of the external auditory canal. However, they rarely occur in the tympanic membrane. A 49-year-old male patient was referred for evaluation of right-sided pulsatile tinnitus that he'd experienced for the previous 2 years.

Prevalence, severity and factors of hearing loss in hemodialysis patients: A cross‐sectional study in Northern Tanzania

open access: yesEye &ENT Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hearing loss, affecting 20% of the global population, disproportionately impacts low‐ and middle‐income countries, including Africa. Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is prevalent among hemodialysis patients. In Tanzania, the growing number of hemodialysis patients highlights the need for hearing assessments.

Anti‐Inflammatory Effects of Flavonoids in Otitis Media: A Systematic Review of Pre‐Clinical Evidence

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Otitis media (OM) is a middle ear infection driven by chronic inflammation, leading to tissue damage and complications such as cholesteatoma. Flavonoids, a class of polyphenols with anti‐inflammatory properties, suppress key inflammatory mediators, reducing neutrophilic infiltration and mucosal thickening. These findings suggest flavonoids as potential

Diagnosis of Tympanic Membrane Disease and Pediatric Hearing Using Convolutional Neural Network Models with Multi-Layer Perceptrons

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In this study, we propose a method of classification for tympanic membrane diseases and regression of pediatric hearing, using a deep learning model of artificial neural networks.

Synchrotron‐Based Trauma Assessment of Robotic Electrode Insertions in Cochlear Implantation

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Minimizing intraoperative trauma during cochlear implant electrode insertion is crucial for preserving residual hearing, and efforts have been made to introduce robotic systems for electrode insertion. On temporal bone specimens, the OTODRIVE system demonstrated its ability to enable consistent and controlled electrode placement while minimizing trauma

Long‐Term Cochlear Implant Sensitivity in Patients With Far Advanced Otosclerosis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study aimed to evaluate mid‐ and long‐term cochlear implant fitting in otosclerosis patients compared to a control group. It suggested significant tissue remodeling at the cochlear apex in otosclerosis patients, likely increasing resistance to electrical currents delivered by the implant.
