Approximation of Fuzzy Sets by Interval Type-2 Trapezoidal Fuzzy Sets

IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, 2020
In this paper, we propose a gradient-based method to approximate a fuzzy set through a trapezoidal fuzzy set (TFS). By adding some constraints in the formulated optimization problem, the major characteristics of the fuzzy set such as the core, the major part of the support, and the shape of the membership function could be preserved; also the form of ...

Approximated Type-2 Fuzzy Set Operations

2006 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems, 2006
Type-2 fuzzy sets, an elaboration over type-1 fuzzy sets, are an interesting method for handling uncertainty in rules and parameters in fuzzy systems. However, their adoption has not been as wide as one could have expected. In this paper we provide a simple introduction to type-2 fuzzy sets; then we propose a novel method for calculating operations on ...

Constrained type-2 fuzzy sets

2011 IEEE Symposium on Advances in Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Systems (T2FUZZ), 2011
Type-2 fuzzy sets extend the expressive capabilities of type-1 fuzzy sets in that, in addition to represent imprecise concepts, they are able to represent the imprecision in the membership function of fuzzy sets. Their use is particularly appropriate when modelling linguistic concepts such as words that mean slightly different things to different ...

Short Remark on Fuzzy Sets, Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Sets, General Type-2 Fuzzy Sets and Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets

2015
In this paper, we introduce specific types of intuitionistic fuzzy sets, inspired by the multi-dimensional intuitionistic fuzzy sets and the General Type-2 fuzzy sets. The newly proposed sets extend the opportunities of the General Type-2 fuzzy sets when modelling of particular types of uncertainty.

Type-2 fuzzy sets applications

2008 6th International Symposium on Applied Machine Intelligence and Informatics, 2008
In the paper a short review of basic type-2 terms and some special possibilities related to the distance-base operator applications are given. One of the possible type-2 fuzzy logic system applications is represented for signal processing problems, because type-2 FLSs can handle second level of uncertainties of the stochastic error measurements using ...

SIMILARITY MEASURES BETWEEN TYPE-2 FUZZY SETS

International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems, 2004
In this paper, we give similarity measures between type-2 fuzzy sets and provide the axiom definition and properties of these measures. For practical use, we show how to compute the similarities between Gaussian type-2 fuzzy sets. Yang and Shih's [22] algorithm, a clustering method based on fuzzy relations by beginning with a similarity matrix, is ...

Shadowed Type-2 Fuzzy Sets -Type-2 Fuzzy Sets with shadowed secondary membership functions

2012 IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems, 2012
General Type-2 Fuzzy Sets (GT2 FSs) have been originally proposed to allow for modeling uncertainty associated with the membership grades of Type-1 (T1) FSs. However, because of the computational complexity associated with the processing of GT2 FSs, only their constrained version, the Interval T2 (IT2) FSs, have been widely used.

Centroid of a type-2 fuzzy set

Information Sciences, 2001
The authors, continuing their previous papers, define the centroid and the generalized centroid of a type-2 fuzzy set and show how to compute them, making use of the product t-norm for practical purpose. In general these computations are highly intensive, but the authors prove that, in the case of interval type-2 fuzzy sets, these procedures are very ...

Geometric Type-2 Fuzzy Sets

2013
This chapter gives a review and technical overview of the geometric representation of a type-2 fuzzy set and explores logical operators used to manipulate this representation. Geometric fuzzy logic provides a distinct way of understanding a fuzzy system, where fuzzy sets and fuzzy logic operators are seen purely as geometric objects which are ...
