Assessing Household Welfare in Response to Rising Food Prices in The Gambia

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines how rising food prices affected household welfare in The Gambia using nationally representative data from the 2015/16 Integrated Household Survey (IHS‐3). The analysis reflects household consumption behavior and market conditions prevailing during that period and provides a structural benchmark for understanding ...

How Does Cultural and Colonial Heritage Affect Optimal Branding Strategies? Evidence From the Rice Sector in Senegal

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Africa's cultural and colonial heritage has profoundly segmented rice markets. Whereas in ancient centers of rice domestication, consumers maintained preferences for local rice consistent with their cultural heritage, preferences have shifted toward imported Asian rice in coastal areas around seaports, due to prior exposure to colonial import ...

A new extension of inverse length biased exponential model with statistical inference under joint censored samples and application

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
In this paper, we introduce a new two-parameter lifetime distribution based on the type II Topp-Leone-G family and the inverse length biased exponential distribution which is called the type II Topp-Leone inverse length biased exponential (TIITL-ILBE ...

Consumers' Willingness to Pay a Premium for Climate‐Friendly Food Production: The Role of Production Method Information and Social Norms

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines whether information about production methods and social norms can increase consumers' willingness to pay (WTP) a price premium for food produced using climate‐friendly farming methods. A randomized survey experiment was conducted with 1568 respondents across Denmark, Lithuania, and Spain, who were assigned to one of four ...

Estimation and Prediction for the Half-Normal Distribution based on Progressively Type-II Censored Samples

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal
In this paper, estimation and prediction problems are discussed for the half-normal distribution under a progressively Type-II censoring scheme. This study focuses on two statistical inferential problems.

AMLEs for the Exponential Distribution Based on Multiply Type-II Censored Samples

open access: yesCommunications for Statistical Applications and Methods, 2005
We propose some estimators of the location parameter and derive the approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs) of the scale parameter in the exponential distribution based on multiply Type-II censored samples. We calculate the moments for the proposed estimators of the location parameter, and the AMLEs which are the linear functions of the order

Clinical Significance of PD‐L1 and HLA Expression in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Response to Immunotherapy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study evaluated immune‐related biomarkers in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors after postoperative recurrence. PD‐L1 expression in tumor‐associated macrophages and tumor cells, together with HLA class I downregulation and HLA‐DR expression, were associated with favorable responses to immunotherapy.

Human‐in‐the‐Loop Swarms: A Bionic Swarm Approach to Real‐World Soil Mapping

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article introduces the “Bionic Swarm,” a novel system that lowers the barriers to real‐world swarm validation by abstracting difficult hardware tasks to app‐guided human agents. We demonstrate the system's utility through the experimental validation of a geotechnical soil‐mapping swarm algorithm and show superior performance to baseline approaches

Accelerated life testing with several type II censored samples

open access: yes, 1989
The asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimator for a likelihood function based on several independent Type II censored samples is established. Examples from the accelerated Hfe class of models are considered with regard to this result. This

The role of venture‐financed startups in innovation for US agriculture

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract To evaluate the role played by startup companies in the innovation ecosystem of US agriculture, we compile a unique dataset of 6024 new entrants founded 1987–2019 that details their financing lifecycles, annual economic performance, and patenting activities.
