Electric-field mediated chemistry: uncovering and exploiting the potential of (oriented) electric fields to exert chemical catalysis and reaction control.

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2020
This Perspective discusses oriented external-electric-fields (OEEF), and other electric-field types, as 'smart reagents', which enable in principle control over wide-ranging aspects of reactivity and structure.

A study on frequency-shaped PWM-type final-state control with quantization

2021 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics (ICM), 2021
The leading and trailing edges of rectangular pulses that are used as input signals for PWM-drive control systems can be only assigned at finite timings on each control interval, which are predetermined according to time resolution. In highspeed and high-precision positioning, this quantization error will exert a negative effect on control performance.

Humanitarian governance and the consequences of the state-fragility discourse in the Democratic Republic of Congo's health sector.

Disasters. The Journal of Disaster Studies, Policy and Management, 2019
This paper examines how the discourse on state fragility affects the preferences of key actors in humanitarian governance for different types of health-sector interventions in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

On state estimation and control in discrete-time systems of linear type

Automatica, 1988
The note presents a unified approach to state estimation and control for time-delayed systems \[ \left[ \begin{matrix} x_{k+1}\\ y_{k+1}\end{matrix} \right]=\sum^{a(k)}_{j=0}\left[ \begin{matrix} A_ 1(k,j)\\ A_ 2(k,j)\end{matrix} \right]x_{k-j}+\sum^{b(k)}_{j=0}\left[ \begin{matrix} B_ 1(k,j)\\ B_ 2(k,j)\end{matrix} \right]y_{k-j}+ \] \[ +\sum^{c(k)}_ ...

Controlling Möbius-Type Helicity and the Excited-State Properties of Cumulenes with Carbenes

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2020
Diradical character and excited-state aromaticity serve as guidelines to identify molecules that show nonlinear optical properties. Cumulenes are known to have small singlet-triplet gaps resulting in significant diradical character. Herein, we report a computational investigation on the electronic structure and excited-state properties of cumulenes of ...

Optimal control for nonlinear systems by a neural controller of the state feedback type

Proceedings of 35th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002
This paper is concerned with designing a neuro-controller for optimal control of nonlinear systems. The neuro-controller approximates the optimal state feedback control law for the nonlinear systems. The neuro-controller consists of a multilayer neural network and its matrices of connection weights are optimized so that the performance function is ...

Design of proportional-derivative-type state feedback controllers for congestion control of transmission control protocol networks

International Journal of Systems Science, 2013
A new proportional-derivative-type state feedback controller is proposed for congestion control of transmission control protocol TCP networks. An analytical TCP model is adopted. In the proposed control scheme, it is possible to efficiently control the TCP traffic using only the queue length at the router without the need to know the TCP window size ...
