The effect of typhoon on particulate organic carbon flux in the southern East China Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Severe tropical storms play an important role in triggering phytoplankton blooms, but the extent to which such storms influence biogenic carbon flux from the euphotic zone is unclear.

A Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Block Diagram of the Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller. ABSTRACT This article introduces a discrete‐time robust adaptive one‐sample‐ahead preview super‐twisting sliding mode controller. A stability analysis of the controller by Lyapunov criteria is developed to demonstrate its robustness in handling both ...

Concept of spinsonde for multi-cycle measurement of vertical wind profile of tropical cyclones

open access: yes, 2014
Tropical cyclones and cyclogenesis are active areas of research. Chute-operated dropsondes jointly developed by NASA and NCAR are capable of acquiring high resolution vertical wind profile of tropical cyclones.

Assembling a True “Olympic Gel” From over 16 000 Combinatorial DNA Rings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Olympic gels are an elusive class of soft matter, consisting of molecular networks held together purely by mechanically interlocked rings. Their topological structure promises unique properties and functions, but their synthesis has proven notoriously difficult.

Typhoon‐Induced Ground Deformation [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2017
AbstractGeodetic instruments now offer compelling sensitivity, allowing to investigate how solid Earth and surface processes interact. By combining surface air pressure data, nontidal sea level variations model, and rainfall data, we systematically analyze the volumetric deformation of the shallow crust at seven borehole strainmeters in Taiwan induced ...

Natural Variations of ZmRLR1 Mediate the Root Lodging Resistance of Maize by Regulating Root Ascorbate and Auxin Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root lodging severely limits crop yield and quality. We reveal that ZmRLR1, a plasma membrane b‐type cytochrome, regulates lodging resistance in maize through dual roles: modulating intracellular redox balance and functioning as a novel component of clathrin‐mediated endocytosis to influence auxin homeostasis. Moreover, natural variations in the ZmRLR1

A Methodological Study on AMH Copula-Based Joint Exceedance Probabilities and Applications for Assessing Tropical Cyclone Impacts and Disaster Risks (Part I)

open access: yesTropical Cyclone Research and Review, 2014
: A disaster induced by a tropical cyclone (TC) is a complex non-linear process, involving interactions of multiple factors. Assuming that the resilience to TC disasters remains basically unchanged, the disaster-causing risk is usually consistent with ...

Extreme Kinetic Stability and RNase Resistance of Human Telomerase RNA G‐Quadruplexes Overcome by DHX36 Helicase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The RNA G‐quadruplexes formed at the 5'‐end of the RNA component of human telomerase possess extreme slow unfolding rate, rendering them resistant to nuclease degradation. The helicase DHX36 overcame this kinetic barrier and significantly reduced the folded fraction.

Model study of tropospheric trace species distributions during PEM-West A [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A three-dimensional mesoscale transport/photochemical model is used to study the transport and photochemical transformation of trace species over eastern Asia and western Pacific for the period from September 20 to October 6, 1991, of the Pacific ...
