Tectonic Evolution of the Tyrrhenian Sea
1985The tectonic evolution of the Tyrrhenian area is related to the progressive approach and the collision between the Western Mediterranean and Adria microplates from the Upper Cretaceous to the middle Pliocene. During this time span the Tyrrhenian Alps and Apennines were formed.

Marine Geology, 2008
Abstract Buried contourites located offshore Capo Suvero (Calabria, Southern Italy) have been investigated using analysis of Sparker profiles. The deposits onlap an erosional surface produced by a slide in the upper slope Pleistocene units. The overall seismic characters of the deposits suggest an interpretation as infilling drift deposits formed by ...

Megabeds in the Marsili Basin, Tyrrhenian Sea
Basin ResearchABSTRACT Megabeds, also known as ‘megaturbidites,’ are exceptionally large submarine sediment deposits likely formed by catastrophic geohazard events. These deposits are increasingly being identified with modern high‐resolution geophysical data, yet their origins and characteristics remain debated.

Modern deep-sea magnesian calcite in the central Tyrrhenian Sea
Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1974ABSTRACT The magnesian calcite in surface sediments from the central Tyrrhenian Sea is almost entirely authigenic. Its concentration decreases with depth, irregularly and rapidly in the shallower samples but very slowly in the deeper ones. The X-ray diffraction peaks of the magnesian calcite become progressively irregular and polymodal with depth, as ...

Cold filament dynamics in Central Tyrrhenian Sea.
1993We analyse the dynamic of a cold filament in the Central Tyrrhenian Sea. After a week of a strong wind blowing offshore (namely the Mistral wind funnelled through the Mouths of Bonifacio, between Sardinian and Corsica) satellite thermal mages revealed the presence of an elongated cold anomaly, blocked over the Sardinian shelf near Olbia.

Miocene to Present evolution of the Calabria Tyrrhenian continental margin (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea)
2009The Miocene to Present evolution of the Calabria Tyrrhenian Continental Margin (CTCM, Southern Tyrrhenian Sea) are reconstructed using two ENE-WSW oriented, near-vertical seismic profiles (CROP-M27 and SISTER 11 lines). The interpreted profiles were time-to-depth converted, merged and translated in a geological section, which was also extended to the ...

Cephalopods assemblages from the southern Tyrrhenian Sea
2004The teuthofauna assemblages of the southern Tyrrhenian sea were studied utilising data derived from five International Medits bottom trawl surveys. A total of 25 cephalopod species were found between 18 and 652 m depth. The assemblages were analysed with Bray-Curtis similarity index.
