The 127 Ma gold mineralization in the Wulong deposit, Liaodong Peninsula, China: Constraints from molybdenite Re-Os, monazite U-Th-Pb, and zircon U-Pb geochronology

Ore Geology Reviews, 2020
The Wulong deposit is a large tonnage deposit (>80 t of Au), characterized by quartz vein style of gold mineralization in the Liaodong Peninsula, China. The auriferous quartz veins are mainly hosted by Late Jurassic gneissic two-mica granite (165–157 Ma)

Timing of the Arabia-Eurasia continental collision—Evidence from detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology of the Red Bed Series strata of the northwest Zagros hinterland, Kurdistan region of Iraq

Geology, 2018
One of the major debated aspects of the Zagros orogenic system in the Middle East is the timing of onset of continental collision between Arabia and Eurasia.

U–Pb geochronological constraints of the late Svecofennian leucogranites of southern Finland

Precambrian Research, 2011
Abstract The ∼500 km long zone of late Svecofennian leucogranites in southern Finland is characterized by felsic, in places migmatitic magmatism that crosscuts older Paleoproterozoic crustal segments. SIMS and ID-TIMS U–Pb isotopic data on zircon and monazite from 15 granite and migmatite samples show that the emplacement of individual leucogranite ...

U/Pb Zircon Geochronology and Tempo of the End-Permian Mass Extinction

Science, 1998
The mass extinction at the end of the Permian was the most profound in the history of life. Fundamental to understanding its cause is determining the tempo and duration of the extinction. Uranium/lead zircon data from Late Permian and Early Triassic rocks from south China place the Permian-Triassic boundary at 251.4 ± 0.3 million years ago.

Zircon U–Pb geochronology and Hf isotope of granitoids in East Kunlun: Implications for the Neoproterozoic magmatism of Qaidam Block, Northern Tibetan Plateau

Precambrian Research, 2018
The Neoproterozoic granitoids in East Kunlun Orogen (EKO) record critical information on the composition and evolution of the early crustal materials, as well as the Precambrian tectonic evolutionary history of the Qaidam Block, northern Tibetan Plateau.

Revolution and Evolution: 100 Years of U-Pb Geochronology

Elements, 2013
U–Pb geochronology has its roots in a spectacular decade of discovery. Within about ten years of the discovery of radioactivity in 1896, old ideas about the nature of matter were overthrown and the seeds of geochronology were planted. After giants of physics like Ernest Rutherford moved on to other research, Arthur Holmes nurtured the new field of ...

Joint Compositional Calibration: An Example for U–Pb Geochronology

2016
This contribution explores several issues arising in the measurement of a (geo)chemical composition with Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), specially in the case that the quantities of interest are linear functions of (log)-ratios.

U/Pb geochronology of the Coney Head Complex, Newfoundland

Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, 1987
The Coney Head Complex, White Bay, Newfoundland, comprises allochthonous plutonic rocks and deformed equivalents emplaced over the continental margin during the Ordovician Taconic Orogeny. A U/Pb zircon age of 474 + 2 Ma for tonalite considered as having formed by partial melting in an island arc, indicates that it crystallized in Arenig time.
