A retrospective cross-sectional study for predicting 72-h mortality in patients with serum aspartate aminotransferase levels ≥ 3000 U/L

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Risk factors associated with 72-h mortality in patients with extremely high serum aspartate aminotransferase levels (AST; ≥ 3000 U/L) are unknown. This single-centre, retrospective, case-controlled, cross-sectional study obtained data from medical ...

A U-statistic estimator for the variance of resampling-based error estimators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We revisit resampling procedures for error estimation in binary classification in terms of U-statistics. In particular, we exploit the fact that the error rate estimator involving all learning-testing splits is a U-statistic.

U-Statistic for Multivariate Stable Distributions

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2017
A U-statistic for the tail index of a multivariate stable random vector is given as an extension of the univariate case introduced by Fan (2006). Asymptotic normality and consistency of the proposed U-statistic for the tail index are proved theoretically.

On the combination of the sign and Maesono tests for simmetry and its efficiency

open access: yesStatistica, 2007
We propose a new test for the simmetry hypothesis which is a combination of the sign statistic and the Wr Maesono statistic. The latter generalizes the Wilcoxon statistic and coincides with it for r = 2. The proposed statistic belongs to the class of non-

Checking Heteroscedasticity in Partially Linear Single-Index Models Using Pairwise Distance

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In this article, a new test is proposed for partially linear single-index models (PLSIM) based on the pairwise distances of the sample points, to test heteroscedasticity.

Fine Gaussian fluctuations on the Poisson space II: rescaled kernels, marked processes and geometric U-statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Continuing the analysis initiated in Lachi\'eze-Rey and Peccati (2011), we use contraction operators to study the normal approximation of random variables having the form of a U-statistic written on the points in the support of a random Poisson measure ...

U-Statistics based on spacings [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Planning and Inference, 2012
Abstract In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic theory for U-statistics based on sample spacings, i.e. the gaps between successive observations. The usual asymptotic theory for U-statistics does not apply here because spacings are dependent variables.

Estimating invariant laws of linear processes by U-statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Suppose we observe an invertible linear process with independent mean-zero innovations and with coefficients depending on a finite-dimensional parameter, and we want to estimate the expectation of some function under the stationary distribution of the ...

The detection of the methylated Wif-1 gene is more accurate than a fecal occult blood test for colorectal cancer screening.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
BackgroundThe clinical benefit of guaiac fecal occult blood tests (FOBT) is now well established for colorectal cancer screening. Growing evidence has demonstrated that epigenetic modifications and fecal microbiota changes, also known as dysbiosis, are ...

Weighted bootstrap for U-statistics

open access: yesJournal of Multivariate Analysis, 2004
AbstractIn this paper we investigate the weighted bootstrap for U-statistics and its properties. Under very general choices of random weights and certain regularity conditions, we show that the weighted bootstrap method with U-statistics provides second-order accurate approximations to the distribution of U-statistics.
