Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Re‐evaluating fetal scalp pH thresholds: An examination of fetal pH variations during labor

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica
Introduction Since the 1970s, fetal scalp blood sampling (FSBS) has been used as a second‐line test of the acid–base status of the fetus to evaluate fetal well‐being during labor.

Limit Theorems in the Nonparametric Conditional Single-Index U-Processes for Locally Stationary Functional Random Fields under Stochastic Sampling Design

open access: yesMathematics
In his work published in (Ann. Probab. 19, No. 2 (1991), 812–825), W. Stute introduced the notion of conditional U-statistics, expanding upon the Nadaraya–Watson estimates used for regression functions.

Renewal theory for asymmetric $U$-statistics

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Probability, 2018
We extend a functional limit theorem for symmetric $U$-statistics [Miller and Sen, 1972] to asymmetric $U$-statistics, and use this to show some renewal theory results for asymmetric $U$-statistics. Some applications are given.

An Edgeworth Expansion for $U$-Statistics

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1980
It is shown that, under some regularity conditions on the kernel, a one-sample $U$-statistic with kernel of degree two admits an asymptotic expansion with remainder term $o(N^{-1})$.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

High-Dimensional U-Statistics Type Hypothesis Testing via Jackknife Pseudo-Values with Multiplier Bootstrap

open access: yesMathematics
High-dimensional parameter testing is commonly used in bioinformatics to analyze complex relationships in gene expression and brain connectivity studies, involving parameters like means, covariances, and correlations.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Large deviations of bootstrapped U -statistics

open access: yesJournal of Multivariate Analysis, 2008
This paper develops a large deviation result with Cramér series for bootstrapped U-statistics where the U-statistic has a non-degenerate, bounded kernel. The method of proof is based on the contraction technique of \textit{R. Keener, J. Robinson} and \textit{N.C. Weber} [Stat. Probab. Lett. 37, No. 1, 59--65 (1998; Zbl 0928.60016)].

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).
