2009Populacija smeđih medvjeda (Ursus arctos) u Hrvatskoj je najzapadnija stabilna, a ujedno i autohtona populacija medvjeda u Europi, što joj daje izuzetan značaj za očuvanje vrste na europskim prostorima. Gospodarenje populacijom smeđeg medvjeda zahtjeva poznavanje njezine genetičke raznolikosti, što dosad nije istraženo.
