An integral dynamic model for the UASB reactor
Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1986AbstractIn this article a dynamic model of a continuous working UASB reactor is described. It results from the integration of the fluid flow pattern in the reactor, the kinetic behavior of the bacteria (where inhibition and limitation were taken into account), and the mass transport phenomena between different compartments and different phases.

Preservation characteristics of UASB Sludges
Journal of Environmental Science and Health . Part A: Environmental Science and Engineering and Toxicology, 1997Abstract Anaerobic treatment has become popular as an effective means for the treatment of high strength wastewaters, however, quantitative research on the preservation characteristics of anaerobic sludges is necessary when an anaerobic reactor is considered for use in industries operating intermittently.

Technical review on the UASB process
International Journal of Environmental Studies, 1991This paper presents a comprehensive review of the UASB wastewater treatment process. Factors affecting granulation of the anaerobic sludge, start‐up of the process and operation of UASB reactor are analyzed. Criteria about design and construction of the UASB reactor are described, and studies on mathematical modeling of fluid flow pattern, sludge ...

Performance of UASB reactor in the biotreatment of 1,1,2-Trichloroethane
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2012This article aims to examine the performance of bench-scale Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor operated under varying operating conditions, during the treatment of simulated wastewater containing 1,1,2-Trichloroethane (TCA). Initially, reactor R1 (control) and reactor R2 (test) containing TCA were operated at 5 different Hydraulic Retention

UASB Treatment of Wastewater Containing Concentrated Benzoate
Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1995The upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) process removed 9799% of soluble chemical oxygen demand (COD) from wastewater containing concentrated benzoate at 37C, pH 7.5, a hydraulic retention time ...

A two-phase anaerobic digestion process (UASB-UASB) for simulated sewage sludge
2008The objectives of this research program were to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of a “two-phase” anaerobic sewage sludge stabilization (UASB-UASB) process. A bench-scale experiment, consisting of two completely mixed sealed upflow anaerobic (A-UASB and M-UASB) reactors, designed to operate inside a walk-in temperature controlled room at ...

Microaeration for hydrogen sulfide removal in UASB reactor
Bioresource Technology, 2014The removal of hydrogen sulfide from biogas by microaeration was studied in Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors treating synthetic brewery wastewater. A fully anaerobic UASB reactor served as a control while air was dosed into a microaerobic UASB reactor (UMSB). After a year of operation, sulfur balance was described in both reactors.

Influence of extrinsic factors on granulation in UASB reactor
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2006The aim of this mini-review is to synthesize and analyze information on how the process of granulation is affected by environmental and operational conditions in the reactor. The factors reviewed are temperature, pH, alkalinity, organic loading rate, upflow velocity, nature and strength of substrate, nutrients, multivalent cations and heavy metals ...

UASB reactor effluent disinfection by ozone and chlorine
Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2015This research studied the sequential ozone and chlorine process with respect to, the inactivation of indicator bacteria and the formation of ozone disinfection byproducts in sanitary wastewater effluent. The applied ozone doses were 5, 8 and 10 mg.O3.L(-1), followed by chlorine doses of 10, 20 and 30 mg.L(-1), respectively.

UASB Treatment of Wastewater with Concentrated Mixed VFA
Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1995The upflow anaerobic-sludge blanket (UASB) process consistently removed 97–99% of chemical oxygen demand (COD) from wastewater containing concentrated mixed volatile fatty acids (VFA) at 37°C at loading rates of up to 24 g-COD/(Lsd) corresponding to a food/microorganism ratio of 0.78 g-COD/[g–volatile suspended solids (VSS)sd].
