Preservation characteristics of UASB Sludges

Journal of Environmental Science and Health . Part A: Environmental Science and Engineering and Toxicology, 1997
Abstract Anaerobic treatment has become popular as an effective means for the treatment of high strength wastewaters, however, quantitative research on the preservation characteristics of anaerobic sludges is necessary when an anaerobic reactor is considered for use in industries operating intermittently.

UASB Treatment of Tapioca Starch Wastewater

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2000
Feasibility of the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) process was investigated for the treatment of tapioca starch industry wastewater. After removal of suspended solids by simple gravity settling, starch wastewater was used as a feed. Start-up of a 21.5-L reactor with diluted feed of approximately 3,000 mg/L chemical oxygen demand (COD) was ...

Automatic Start-Up of UASB Reactors

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2001
A control system to automate the start-up of anaerobic wastewater treatment reactors is presented. The system controls the feedflow rate, using the biogas production or the biogas flow rate as the only on-line variable. Furthermore, other off-line parameters, such as methane content in the biogas and COD of influent are also necessary to calculate the ...

A two-phase anaerobic digestion process (UASB-UASB) for simulated sewage sludge

2008
The objectives of this research program were to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of a “two-phase” anaerobic sewage sludge stabilization (UASB-UASB) process. A bench-scale experiment, consisting of two completely mixed sealed upflow anaerobic (A-UASB and M-UASB) reactors, designed to operate inside a walk-in temperature controlled room at ...

UASB Treatment of Wastewater with Concentrated Mixed VFA

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1995
The upflow anaerobic-sludge blanket (UASB) process consistently removed 97–99% of chemical oxygen demand (COD) from wastewater containing concentrated mixed volatile fatty acids (VFA) at 37°C at loading rates of up to 24 g-COD/(Lsd) corresponding to a food/microorganism ratio of 0.78 g-COD/[g–volatile suspended solids (VSS)sd].

UASB reactor effluent disinfection by ozone and chlorine

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part A, 2015
This research studied the sequential ozone and chlorine process with respect to, the inactivation of indicator bacteria and the formation of ozone disinfection byproducts in sanitary wastewater effluent. The applied ozone doses were 5, 8 and 10 mg.O3.L(-1), followed by chlorine doses of 10, 20 and 30 mg.L(-1), respectively.

Hydrodynamic characteristics of UASB bioreactors.

Journal of environmental science & engineering, 2013
The hydrodynamic characteristics of UASB bioreactors operated under different organic loading and hydraulic loading rates were studied, using three laboratory scale models treating concocted sucrose wastewater. Residence time distribution (RTD) analysis using dispersion model and tanks-in-series model was directed towards the characterization of the ...

An integral dynamic model for the UASB reactor

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1986
AbstractIn this article a dynamic model of a continuous working UASB reactor is described. It results from the integration of the fluid flow pattern in the reactor, the kinetic behavior of the bacteria (where inhibition and limitation were taken into account), and the mass transport phenomena between different compartments and different phases.

Post-treatment of effluents from UASB reactor treating industrial wastewater sediment by constructed wetland

Environmental technology, 2018
The improvement of water quality parameters by wetland systems is an increasingly global practice. In the present study, the utilization of a treatment method comprising of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor followed by a surface flow (SF)

Study on hydrogen production with hysteresis in UASB

Chemosphere, 2004
This paper uses a 10-l UASB (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket) bench-scale reactor to treat the esterification wastewater of a polyethylene terephthalate manufacturing plant. Two organic loading rates are used to evaluate the effect on H2 production of temperature gradually step-down and step-up in the range of 11-25 degrees C. Experimental results show
