Treatment of Preserved Wastewater with UASB [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
The preserved wastewater was treated by the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor, the effects of the anaerobic time on COD, turbidity, pH, conductivity, SS, absorbance, and decolorization rate of the preserved wastewater were investigated.

Quantitative Detection of Syntrophic Fatty Acid-degrading Bacterial Communities in Methanogenic Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In methanogenic habitats, volatile fatty acids (VFA), such as propionate and butyrate, are major intermediates in organic matter degradation. VFA are further metabolized to H2, acetate and CO2 by syntrophic fatty acid-degrading bacteria (SFAB) in ...

Metal fractionation in sludge from sewage UASB treatment [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Management, 2017
This study evaluates the trace metal composition and fractionation in sludge samples from anaerobic sewage treatment plants from six cities in Brazil. Ten metals were evaluated: Ni, Mn, Se, Co, Fe, Zn, K, Cu, Pb and Cr. Specific methanogenic activity of the sludge was also evaluated using acetic acid as the substrate.

Biochar‐Induced Shifts in Fungal Community Structure and Their Association With Soil Physical Properties in Degraded Soil From the Brazilian Semiarid

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil degradation compromises ecosystem functioning. Biochar, a carbon‐rich amendment, has gained attention as a promising strategy to enhance soil structure and restore microbial balance. This study investigated the effects of two biochars, cashew bagasse biochar (CBB) and a co‐pyrolyzed biochar produced from sewage sludge and cashew pruning ...
