From Stillage to Sustainable Energy: Microbe‐Enabled Biofuel Innovations
To fulfill the ever increasing energy demand, the world is overexploiting fossil fuel resources owing to environmental consequences that enforce the global shift toward renewable energy. Ethanol is emerging as a key biofuel; however, its production generates large volumes of stillage.

Removal of steroid estrogens from municipal wastewater in a pilot scale expanded granular sludge blanket reactor and anaerobic membrane bioreactor [PDF]
Anaerobic treatment of municipal wastewater offers the prospect of a new paradigm by reducing aeration costs and minimizing sludge production. It has been successfully applied in warm climates, but does not always achieve the desired outcomes in ...

This study evaluated the effects of pyrolytic biochars derived from co‐pyrolyzed sewage sludge and cashew residues on total organic carbon (TOC) recovery and CO2 emissions in degraded soils under greenhouse conditions. Biochar applications (5 to 40 Mg ha−1) enhanced soil carbon stocks and variably influenced CO2 fluxes over time.

Correlating Methane Production to Microbiota in Anaerobic Digesters Fed Synthetic Wastewater [PDF]
A quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) between relative abundance values and digester methane production rate was developed. For this, 50 triplicate anaerobic digester sets (150 total digesters) were each seeded with different methanogenic

Anaerobic Treatment of Concentrated Black Water in UASB Reactor at a Short HRT [PDF]
This research describes the feasibility of applying a UASB reactor for the treatment of concentrated black (toilet) water at 25 °C. On average 78% of the influent load of COD at an HRT of 8.7 days was removed. Produced methane can be converted to 56 MJ/p/
